A complete guide [Insane in the Membrane] achievement

The [Insane in the Membrane] is my latest focus in World of Warcraft. It is an achievement obtained via raising your reputation to exalted with several exotic Pre-BC Reputation Factions. I remember reading a reply made by someone who already had the achievement when asked what was the best way to obtain it – “Take a break from life” was his reply.
All jokes aside, I have been struggling these past weeks, searching for a complete and comprehensive guide on how to attain this title, however not a single guide has managed to satisfy me completely and I have always had to use more than 1 source to get enough information.
I also did a search on MMOwned and most guides related to this topic are very poorly written or very vague, so I decided to write my own complete guide to assist those who are on the same quest as my self.

    The basics:
As I said above, the achievement required to you raise your reputation level to exalted with a number of Reputation Factions.

Step 1: (Honored with Bloodsail Buccaneers)

Most of you will be familiar with this faction, as it is very similar to getting the avast, ye admiral - Thottbot: World of Warcraft achievement.

Achievement which is attained by killing booty bay guards to get get your reputation with the Bloodsail Buccaneers to Friendly. However for the [Insane in the Membrane] achievement, you will want to raise your reputation to Honored.
I would recommend taking a look at this guide if you are interested in attaining the [Avast, Ye Admiral] achievement and your cool Bloodsail Admiral title along the way: Master of Warcraft: The Complete Guide to Bloodsail Admiral Title

    Step 2: (Exalted with Ravenholdt)

First travel to Hillsbrad Foothills and continue to the Durnholde Keep which is located here:

Simply AoE all the mobs you can find inside the keep, kill until you reach 11,999/12,000 honored reputation with Ravenholdt. Once you reach that, the mods stop yielding reputation and you will then need to complete the repeatable quest to turn in Heavy Junkbox - Item - World of Warcraft .
The quest Junkboxes Needed - Quest - World of Warcraft is obtained from Creature: Fahrad - Thottbot: World of Warcraft located in Alterac Mountains

The quest required 5 boxes per turn in, and 1405 boxes in total.
This guide was written by evankimori's Profile - Wowhead to assist players in farming Heavy Junkboxes.

Alternatively you could check out Ravenholdt Exalted Guide | Warcraft with an Obsessive Twist which is another guide on raising your reputation to exalted with Ravenholdt using pretty much the same methods as I have mentioned already.

    Step 3: (Exalted with Shen’dralar)

Again another simple, yet tedious task. You have the option of completing 3 repeatable turn-in quests to an NPC in Dire Maul (This is a big reason why this part is so irritating, Dire Maul is in the middle of nowhere!)
I would strongly recommend getting the Crescent Key - Item - World of Warcraft which is needed to gain entrance to Dire Maul, instead of needing to ask someone else to open it for you.
Here is a guide written by Phazz's Profile - Wowhead on how to get the key:

You accept and turn in the quests at Lorekeeper Lydros - NPC - World of Warcraft inside Dire Maul.
You will have a choice to complete:
Libram of Focus - Quest - World of Warcraft (needing Libram of Focus - Item - World of Warcraft )
Libram of Protection - Quest - World of Warcraft (needing Libram of Protection - Item - World of Warcraft )
Libram of Rapidity - Quest - World of Warcraft (needing Libram of Rapidity - Item - World of Warcraft )

Along side the mentioned librams, the quest will also require certain other reagents, here is a nice table courtesy of Saate:

You will need to complete these quests 84 times (each turn in yields 500 reputation)

Step 4: (Exalted with Steamwheedle Cartel)

    [NOTE:]
Completing the following quests will lower your Bloodsail Admiral rep (which is why we chose to raise it to a bit higher than needed by the achievement). Also Killing booty bay guards to raise your Bloodsail Admiral rep lowers your Steamwheedle Cartel reputations – so I highly suggest first doing the Bloodsail Admiral rep grind BEFORE doing the Steamwheedle Cartel rep grind!
We are going to be completing the Free Knot! - Quest - World of Warcraft quest in Dire Maul which gives you +350 reputation with all the goblin factions (that make up the Steamwheedle Cartel). The quest both starts and ends in Dire Maul with Knot Thimblejack - NPC - World of Warcraft

To complete the Free Knot! Quest you will need Gordok Shackle Key - Item - World of Warcraft which drops off almost all ogres inside Dire Maul.
We will also be completing the The Gordok Ogre Suit - Quest - World of Warcraft quest (also from Knot in Dire Maul) which requires the following:
Bolt of Runecloth - Item - World of Warcraft X4
Rugged Leather - Item - World of Warcraft X8
Rune Thread - Item - World of Warcraft X2
Ogre Tannin - Item - World of Warcraft X1
The last Item (Orgre Tannin) you can obtain from Ogre Tannin Basket - Object - World of Warcraft in Dire Maul.

[NOTE:] It is advisable to first complete the The Gordok Ogre Suit - Quest - World of Warcraft quest and THEN complete the Free Knot! - Quest - World of Warcraft quest.

    Step 5:
    (Exalted with Darkmoon Faire)

For this section I simply am going to quote from Darkmoon Faire Exalted Guide | Warcraft with an Obsessive Twist because his guide for raising your reputation to exalted with Darkmoon Faire is very effective as well as the method being pretty uniform in all methods.

    What is the Darkmoon Faire?

The Darkmoon Faire is a traveling carnival that roams about Azeroth and Outland. On the first Friday of each month it arrives in either Elwynn Forest, Mulgore or Terokkar Forest and begins to set up camp. A few days later the setting up completes and the Faire is then open for business for a whole week.
There’s a whole bunch of different amusements at the Faire but since this guide is about getting your reputation to exalted I won’t go into those in details. Check out the ‘Links and Other Resources’ section at the end of this guide for some links to further reading if you’re mainly just interested in learning about the games and ticket prizes.

    The Method

This is going to hurt. It doesnt really matter what way you look at it this one is going to impact your gold balance. After 2000/6000 Friendly (I know, odd cutoff point right?) the only way to raise reputation with Darkmoon Faire is by turning in low level Items - World of Warcraft or Items - World of Warcraft to the Darkmoon Faire.

Starting out at 0/3000 Neutral with the Darkmoon Faire it takes 120 epic deck quest completes to get to exalted. If you manage to get these decks at a steal for 200g each that puts the cost of getting this reputation to exalted at a lofty 24,000g! You’re not going to get the decks for 200g though (at least not quickly) so strategy plays a big part here if you’d prefer not to just throw gold at this one.

Card Calculations – Huh? Decks are costing who in the what now?

Ok, so for me this was one of the more annoying parts of the Insane grind. I had some gold and I knew I needed decks but it was a major annoyance to sit down and research stuff outside of just checking the AH for epic decks. What herbs turned into what inks? What inks turned into what cards? Was it cheaper to buy herbs or inks or cards in the long run?

I wanted to get my title as fast as I could. Since I was pretty much spending my gold on Darkmoon Faire stuff as fast as I made it I needed to try to be smart about the stuff I bought. After doing some research this was the conversion table I put together:

Now keep in mind that milling herbs is like disenchanting so depending on luck you may get more or less Verdant Pigment - Item - World of Warcraft which is the key ingredient in making rogues cards. I set myself the target of 200 gold per epic deck when buying up and building decks. To figure out how much I should be spending on rogues cards to achieve the same rep gains I calculated:

    (200g x 1 Epic Deck = 350 Reputation) = (350 Reputation = 14 Rogues Decks x 14g28s)

I was pretty surprised when I did the math and realised I could spend more on rogues decks and materials. As the above calculation demonstrates I discovered I could spend up to 4g76s per rogues card and still be meeting my 200g/deck target. This means if you’re spending up 250g on epic decks you can spend up to 5g95s per rogues card and if you’re spending 300g on epic decks you can spend up to 7g14s per card. Sounds crazy doesnt it? I think once you realise this you have a big advantage that will help you get to exalted without spending an arm and a leg.

Outside of the rogues decks something that helped me get to exalted was buying up individual cards and putting together my own decks. This seems like a really tedious idea at first but if you setup an alt with a guild bank its actually pretty easy. I use the BankItems - Addons - Curse mod which allows me to quickly see what cards I’ve got on alt. This is a MASSIVE help when you’re checking the auction house each day for missing cards.

I figured that since this is already pretty confusing it might help out if I actually talked people through it. Click play on the video below and I’ll take you through my auction house routine for Darkmoon Faire cards – yeah yeah I have a funny accent, shaddup already!

    [YT]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLwiLB-7mqo[/YT]

One of the best things about doing Darkmoon Faire these days is the fact that they’ve changed all the quest reward cards to BOE items that you can resell afterward. This is an absolutely massive advantage over people like me who had the reputation prior to the 3.1 patch as Darkmoon Faire isnt quite the gold sink it used to be. I’ve even heard of people hanging about at the Faire and offering 50-100g for people to let them turn in the decks on their behalf and get the rep increase.

    Extra Resources:

While searching for all my information needed in this achievement and writing this guide I came along a blog which had guides on raising reputation with certain factions. So if you are looking for a good read or alternative methods I would recommend checking out the following links.

Darkmoon Faire Exalted Guide | Warcraft with an Obsessive Twist
Steamwheedle Exalted Guide | Warcraft with an Obsessive Twist
Shen’dralar Exalted Guide | Warcraft with an Obsessive Twist
Ravenholdt Exalted Guide | Warcraft with an Obsessive Twist

I hope this guide helps those who are in this incredible journey and motivates those who are considering it to begin! It is a fabulous achievement which will gain you much respect for your patience and dedication as well as a constant steam of "How do you get that title" whispers

P.S. While searching MMOwned for similar guides, I found a rather nifty guide ( http://www.mmowned.com/forums/wow-gu...hievement.html ) which focuses on how to make money off of those who are looking to complete this achievement.

As per recommendation by Heftydogg if you are looking for another resource to follow from, http://files.spectralcoding.com/files/wow/index.html is another excellent guide

Apart from the pieces that I actually SAID were copied from other guides as well as gave links directly to the original guide, the rest of the work is 100% mine. If you don't feel that my guide is legit then why not instead of moaning, actually report it and see what the mods think? Honestly I don't see anything wrong with it and I am just trying to help.

It's rare to see someone who actually knows how to compile various guides properly, while still adding your own originality.

Great Overall guide. This is one of the best I have yet to come by that explains Insane in the Membrane so thoroughly.

Yes, I am currently working on this achievement and I have read about a dozen guides on this, and to be honest, this is the BEST guide that I have read. He clearly put it all together in a very orderly, thought out way. Obviously this is not a rep farm, as was stated. I even rep him for at least referencing where he did copy and paste -- Too many idiots out there actually looking for free rep that copy and paste and claim as there own. Nice guide man, thx!

What exactly is MMO-Aion.net that is linked in your sig? I mean obviously it is a website about Aion etc but any specifics? I am about to start playing Aion once I finish 1 or two last minute RL things.

I admitted that it is a re-post, but it is much more clear and well-rounded than most guides, as some people have said already.

This is an achievement that involved several complicated steps, and can become confusing. Also almost all of the previous Insane in the Membrane guides on MMOwned are copy and paste of a poorly explained guide from a different source. Whereas this guide is an original, a true contribution that MMOwned can call its own.

Kudos for the effort on compiling it all yourself, but just not a good guide =/ It doesn't go as in-depth as almost every other insane in the membrane guide I've seen. One that I've been going off of, and is updated regularly with new ideas and tricks, is Callahan's.

[Insane in the Membrane] FoS Guide - By Callahan of Ysera-US

It's ridiculously well written, neat, and detailed. Would rather have seen you copy and paste that =P

    1. Blink STFU I know I have no room to talk, but I am right on this one, I said it was a re-post and he admitted it, it is not nearly in depth as other guides, it is just a rep farm, and he got elite from this. So GTFO

It is actually much more in-depth than all of the insane in the membrane guides that are posted on mmowned.

I really don't see what your problem with me is, but crap dude, this is a community forum, not a war coliseum.
