The answer to this whole problem rests a battle.net account. You've probably all see it already, Blizzard is working to make one generic account for all your Blizzard titles. Well here's a little gem that you might have missed.
So you just bought a level 80 pally off of some guy on craigslist and now you want to move the pally to your main account. Oops can't do it because the names are different. Enter the Battlenet account.
If you don't have a battle.net account create one.
Now add your own copy of wow to your battle.net account.
It will prompt you if you are the sole owner of this account..Click YES.
No add the other account that you purchased.
Once again answer YES to the Sole Owner Question.
But wait....why does this work? Well currently Battle.net will change all the information on the account to match the battle.net account.
Once you have both accounts on under your battle.net account...Do a character transfer, it will work.
My friend and I did this two days ago, and he was able to copy a level 70 priest from one of my old accounts to his normal main account.
I didn't see this posted anywhere, but then again wasn't really sure how what keys words to search for.
Enjoy and hope it helps
