Introduction
Hey guys here is a little investment to help you make a few thousand.
For this to work effectively you will need a decent amount of gold.
The plot
The item we shall be investing in is Tankard'of'terror, the new BOE 1h from Coren Direbrew. As some of you may know these are selling for around 500-1k depending on server on ah, and will get cheaper towards the end of Brewfest (1week today).
The Investment
Despite that there are also alot of desperate people who can be haggled to under 500g!. My tip is to buy as many of these for as cheap as you can (monitor trade for desperate people and haggle), save them for 1-2weeks after AH and relist for 4-5x the price.
Profit?
Other news
In order to make money to invest in these i run Coren daily and also haggled deperate sellers and relisted for 200-400 more. I now have 10 Tankards ready that i plan on selling for 1200-1600 after Brewfest. The profit is server dependant, but is guaranteed.
Sweetgnome:
I think this has a lot of potential, and as with anything there's risk involved.
Reasons:
*Look at what similar items are selling for, eventually the stockpile of tankards will have dried up, it won't take that long.
*If you have enough gold to stockpile these I suggest posting a 'wanted' add on your realm forums, asking people to send them to you cod.
*It's a novelty item that doubles as being practical/one you'd use in raiding. This makes it valuable to those of us who like fun. If druid's could dual wield I'd buy two of them, and I'm resto...hic
The only risk you're taking,
assuming you buy for 1k each or less is in tying up you gold for one to five months. After an arbitrary 5 months I'm assuming the To'T population still 'in the wild' will have been hunted to near extinction.
Why wait to sell them?
not only is ignorance contagious, it's also profitable. Some will not know the average value of the tankards, these are the people who don't watch trade chat very often etc
I don't know how they exist but they do, thank god. Try selling the tankards you have for 500-1k over purchase price now, "/2 wts Tankard pst" vs "wts 2.5kg" so people in trade don't try and undercut you.
Prepare your market.
*If you have many alts, or like-minded friends you can start trying to raise the price a week before you want to be selling them. /2 wts Tankard o' Terror 2.5k
change the text up every time, use 5 alts, change prices but make the price above current average.
*Wait until no tankards are listed on auction then list yours at the price you want to sell, this means any undercutting will also have inflated prices, if they're checking prices manually.
Have other people work for you.
The deal: they buy for 500 and sell to you for 600. 'I'll take any you can get for 600, guaranteed 100g profit for you' etc, or whatever you want.
Contact the owners of all To'T listings on the Auction-house,
write down their names and mail them one by one with some free brewfest beer to sweeten them up, ask to buy their tankard/s for x-gold if they don't sell within the next few days, as a failsafe. Your offer is open indefinitely, so they can think it over.
This will bring in a few extra, I've tried it with other things and vouch for it.
Eventually the main competition you will face when selling these, is not from other Tankards. You will be competing with other equivalent boe weapons, and be selling in the same price-range. (assuming you wait months instead of weeks to sell)

Tobold has some more things to say, apparently this is the only BOE 226 weapon ingame?
Thanks Marzx, solid.
