    Warrior PvP guide

    Ok!
The other day I finally admitted I needed to "L2P"

Honestly I wasnt that bad at pvp, but I was so stubborn about staying in one stance, battle as arms, zerker as fury and def as prot obviously, so I was extremely limited skill-wise..
Basically i've been trying out some macros, stance dancing and talent specs, thought i'd write a guide for the warriors who think they can do everything in one stance, or without changing weapon/shield.

    DISCLAIMER:
I'm not claiming to be pro, or that I'm awesome or anything before some nubs say things like "why no peircing howl?"

    Talents:
    http://talent.************.com/?warr...2&version=9835

Basically this is my talent spec, alot of optional talents but this is my personal choice and has the basic talents you need for pvp
    these are:

Tactical Mastery - keep your precious rage when you change stances, with 3/3 in this talent you keep 25 rage when changing, as you al;ready keep 10

Taste for Blood - get important overpower procs by applying rend, for targets that aren't likely to dodge or parry you, such as clothies (actually they cant parry at all.. but can still dodge)

    Mortal Strike
    - for the 50% healing debuff

Second Wind - for some important rage and healing

    Juggernaut
    - charge in combat? yes plx

Unrelenting Assault - this is probably the only chance you have against a healer, if you use overpower while the enemy is casting, reduces their healing and magic damage by 50%, this stacks with mortal strikes healing debuff, it takes skill to pull off and still only gives a slim chance of a victory, since there are so many instant heals, heals that have extremely short casting times and you need it to proc as well..

Sudden Death - another burst move, works with the RNG (random number generator), so you need lucky procs. The execute only uses up to 30 rage so you can't save up alot and unleash massive burst anymore =[, but it's still a neccessary move imo

Bladestorm - removes and movement impairing effects or roots, novas etc, that itself is a reason to take this talent, and as you know it whirlwinds a bunch of times

    and finally
Blood Craze - this basically heals you when you get crit, even if you have alot of resi, you'll still want this
    Alternative spec, arms/prot with cruelty
    http://talent.************.com/?warr...0&version=9868

basically taking last stand and imp revenge
the imp revenge goes nicely with UA from arms, for when you tank up against anything that runs at you screaming

downside = no blood craze =[

    Highly popular talents:

Improved Hamstring, chance to immobilize which can obviously be extremely handy
However I don't like wasting gcds, trying to proc the immobilize when the chance is pretty low =/

Peircing Howl, like hamstring but aoe!
This is very good, especially if the enemy is just out of range and your slowed or something.
I only dont like this because it has a short 6 second duration

Weapon Mastery: Reduces chance to be dodged, and reduces time of disarm effects on you
I don't see why being dodged matters when you can overpower, and you can have a titanium weapon chain for the shorter disarm duration.

Theyre just personal opinions, I might be wrong but don't start QQing

    Glyphs:

Charge: Takes 3 seconds off the Charge cooldown, so it's only 12 secs.
This helps with rage generation, especially with improved charge, and helps with burst since juggernaut will be proccing more, so more critical MS's and Slams

Overpower: This basically lets overpower proc from parries, so you can use it on dks, which tank using parry.

Execution: I THINK this is better than the mortal strike's 10% extra dmg glyph.. if the ms did 1k damage, 10% more would make it 1100
If execute hits with 10 more rage, at 38 dmg per rage point, thats 380 more damage in each sudden death proc you get, but since MS miiiight be more used that execute, MS may be the better choice, as I say, it's personal preference.

Enraged Regeneration: 10% more hp from enraged regen, With my gear I get about 2500 more hp from it, pretty nice

Battle: meh, 1 min extra might stop it wearing off mid fight, so you don't have to waste a GCD to keep it up =/?

Bloodrage: doesn't bloodrage take like 1k health without this? i'm not giving 1k hp for 20 rage :|, could be dangerous I guess

    Gems:

I don't know much about gems or enchants, i've not even had all my gear enchanted yet

but the run speed meta gem wont stack run speed with the boots enchant

but i "heard" the -10% stun duration DOES stack with iron will, so this is my favourite gem for pvp

i would say the titanium weapon chain is useful, since it means you dont need 2 talent points into weapon mastery for disarm duration reduction, and it also gives you some hit rating.

on my own gear i stack as much stamina and resilience as I can
alot of people like more str or crit, but its down to you really

    Macros and spellbar

This is how i have all of my spells and actions on my bar

    ---
    http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/9...riormacros.png
    ---

I use the R key to scroll up a bar, to fig 4, so i have easy access to

    Shattering Throw - number1,
    Enraged Regeneration - number 2
    Trinket - number 3
Will of the Forsaken <3 (racial) - number 4
    Intimidating Shout - number 5

My trinket is bound to Q, hamstring is bound to E

I use F to scroll down a spellbar to fig 5

This gives me fast access to some other stuff.. its a bit messy but you can see basically what I can do.. number 4 is rocket boots as I have engineering, and 5 is parachute cloak, for when your BG'ing n stuff.

    WARNING!

After casting Spell reflect, shield wall or shield block, if you unequip the shield, YOU WILL LOSE THE EFFECT. You can change stance and not lose, it but as soon as you put your 2h back on, that spell reflect buff is lost.

    Macros:

    ---
    Macro 1: CHARGE!

    #showtooltip charge
    /equip [button:2] Colossal Skull-Clad Cleaver
    /cast Battle Stance

When left clicked, this will change you into battle stance, if you put your spells on the same buttons as me, charge will be under 6 in battle stance, so just click it again to charge.
Right clicking this will do the exact same thing, but also equip your 2 hander, incase you were using a shield.
You may wish to keep a shield on when you use this, incase your only changing to charge or something.
    -------

    ---
    Macro 2: INTERCEPT!

    #showtooltip Intercept
    /equip Colossal Skull-Clad Cleaver
    /cast Berserker Stance

This macro basically equips your 2hander and puts you in berserker stance.
If the macro is put in the right place, intercept will be under the same button, so you canj just tap it again to intercept.
    -------

    Macro 3: Tank up

    #showtooltip Intervene
    /equip Crimson Steel
    /equip Titansteel Shield Wall
    /cast Defensive Stance

This macro simply equips your 1h and shield, then puts you into defensive stance with 1 click, and you can see the cooldown on intervene
    -------

    ---
Macro 4: Spell Reflect in battle stance!

    #showtooltip Spell Reflection
    /equip [button:1] Crimson Steel
    /equip [button:1] Titansteel Shield Wall
    /cast [button:1]Spell Reflection
    /equip [button:2] Colossal Skull-Clad Cleaver

When left clicked this will equip your 1 hander and shield, click it again to cast spell reflection
If right clicked, this button will put your 2 hander back on.
    -------

    ---
Macro 5: Shield Bash in battle stance!

    #showtooltip shield bash
    /equip [button:1] Crimson Steel
    /equip [button:1]Titansteel Shield Wall
    /cast [button:1]shield bash
    /equip [button:1]Colossal Skull-Clad Cleaver
    /equip [button:2] Colossal Skull-Clad Cleaver

Clicking this macro will equip your shield and 1h, clicking again will shield bash then automatically put your 2h back on.
right clicking this will put your 2h back on without casting shild bash, just if you wanted to do that for some reason.
    -------

    ---
    Macro 6: Bladestorm!

    #showtooltip Bladestorm
    /equip Colossal Skull-Clad Cleaver
    /cast Bladestorm

This just equips your 2h incase you had a shield on, then uses bladestorm
    -------

    ---
    Macro 7: Back to arms!

    /cast Battle Stance
    /equip Colossal Skull-Clad Cleaver

This just re-equips your 2h and puts you back into battle stance
You could also do this by right clicking macro 1, which would be under button 6 in def stance, but if you put all the buttons in the right places, this one is on the same button as bladestorm.
So clicking this twice will equip your 2h, put you in battle stance and cast bladestorm.
    -------

    The buttons 1 to =

1 in all stances is a burst move
    2 is MS
    3 is slam
4 is for the exclusive stance moves, overpower in battle, revenge in defensive and whirlwind in zerker
5 is for moves you tend not to use as much, rend should always be kept up, but not spammed

6 in battle stance casts charge
6 in zerker stance uses macro 1
6 in defensive stance uses macro 1

7 in battle stance uses macro 2
7 in zerker stance casts intercept
7 in defensive stance uses macro 2

8 in battle stance uses macro 3
8 in zerker stance uses macro 3
8 in defensive stance casts Intervene

9 in battle stance uses macro 4
9 in zerker stance casts victory rush... I guess anything can go here..
9 in defensive stance casts spell reflect

0 in battle stance uses macro 5
0 in zerker stance casts pummel
0 in defensive stance casts shield bash

    - in battle stance uses macro 6
    - in zerker stance uses macro 6
    - in defensive stance uses macro 7

= in battle stance casts retaliation
= in zerker stance casts recklessness
= in defensive stance casts shield wall

Currently, retaliation, recklessness and shield wall DO NOT share a CD.

If you think you suck at playing with a warrior...Think again !

You just said how you like to play a warrior and posted some macros. If you want to be really good in PvP you go BG's, WG or world pvp etc. instead of reading some random guy's guide to how he thinks a warrior should pvp.

It's not bad for basics but I would have to say that you need to focus more on arena situations rather than BG stuff because that is pretty much what most pvpers aspire to. I guess I can help tweak a bit:

Imp hamstring IS a good talent depending on the arena bracket and partner(s). Something like druid/war or war/priest is more important than with a sham or pally partner. Sure druids can shapeshift to get out but with arena dps still this high even with high resilience, shapeshifting into cheetah can be extremely risky (especially against rogues) and possibly game ending. Shammies have totems and water shield to tank pretty well and pallies have bof and 20 sec hammers (if holy/prot hybrid).

What you are saying about weapon mastery is 100% wrong, no argument there. You WANT to enchant your weapon with something like berserking (no the armor reduction does not screw with armored to the teeth) or greater savagery. Sure, you can overpower dodges but who cares if they are dodging mortal strike or executes? 50% wpn disarm reduction and dodge overcoming is a must for pvp.

I'm having clicking your links to talent calculators but if they have imp slam they are wasting talent points. For the arms/prot hybrid, if you spent points in cruelty you probably didn't get concussion blow or gag order which defeats the purpose. People that go arms/prot hybrid do it to increase their survival at the expense of dps stuff like bladestorm, armored to the teeth, and cruelty. In return, they get imp spell reflect to reflect mana burns, imp revenge for rng stun, concussion blow for peels/burst, and gag order for ranged silence or immediate silence after breaking bubbles. To not go that far is to short change yourself.

For glyphs, imp execute is good if you have 3/3 sudden death. Most wars I play with have 1/3 because they go for blood craze.

Atm, charge glyph is good but with the changes coming it might not be good anymore. Plus people don't take it to help them with rage generation. They take it to target switch more or reduce the risk of the target getting away. Just had to throw that in there.

Overpower glyph is meh really. DKs will still give you trouble not because of parrying but because of CoI spam and Death Grip.

You also forgot to add that the hamstring glyph stacks with imp hamstring additively (even confirmed by blizzard). So 25% to snare is a lifesaver at times.

Sweeping strike glyph is AMAZING for double dps teams especially. For times when you they are opening up on your partner or when you're in zerk stance and need that extra juice, it's good to be able to pop into zerk stance, pop reck+trinket+ss+bladestorm and kill stuff. Still in debate as to whether it's a must due to situation but I personally like it.

Enraged Regeneration glyph is terrible. The healing stuff is nice, but the problem is the ability itself. Most of the time I pop it during a CC lock on my healer unless it's something with a short duration, possible to get out (trinket is up), I am fully HoT'd or shielded, I am near a pillar against ranged or my partner is near a pillar, etc. However the enraged regeneration will NOT save you from dying if you are low than compared to something like the battlemaster's trinket. If shield wall is down, shield block is down, and all that other stuff is down except enraged regeneration you will die against a well timed burst. If you don't pop enraged regeneration when the other cds are up, you are still going to survive due to the cds and passive talents that may proc (blood craze and second wind)

For macros I have no idea why you didn't put an intervene macro, a disarm macro, or add /cancelaura (don't remember exact command atm) for bladestorm.

If you are going to dissect talents, you should probably dissect all of them rather than a selected few so that people may know pros and cons as well as why some were not chosen.

Now about gems, the current debate that is ensuing with warriors is armor penetration vs str, even if you are using axe or mace. Sword sucks due to the internal cd and rng.

    Why armor penetration?
-increase damage against most war/healer counter comps
-when you're running around in about full deadly or furious, the damage increase from armor penetration outweighs str

    Why not?
-if you do not have the gear for it, don't bother
-it is at its best if you have some pve armor penetration gear.

    Why str?
-Reliable change and is the best until you get more geared
-Will help against cloth counter comps depending on partner

    Why not str?
-pretty much already mentioned. Too static.

Stacking stamina and resilience is not good for a warrior. Compared to the other melee, you do not have as much consistent dps, lockdowns, or stuff that ignores armor to allow you the luxury of sacrificing damage. When you get full hateful and gem with everything dmg with the 20 resilience gem and enchant to chest, you should be running around with enough resilience to keep you alive. You need to increase your damage to make your bursts matter.

Just in case a person doesn't know what the typical burst rotation is, it's usually when you are switching. You have rend up on your current target, have the switch target in los. Taste for blood should be up. Switch, charge with heroic strike qued, mortal strike, execute if sudden death is up, overpower, bladestorm.

Every pvp guide also has an addon section. Personally, I don't use that many addons. Gladius is highly recommended as well as omniCC. There are others but I find that these are the core.

Well, from the looks of what you got, I'm betting you got them from the worldofwarcraft forums. My suggestion is to almost never look there for pvp nowadays with other stuff available like arenajunkies. The pvp forums on the blizz site is mainly full of whiners.

I also want to add that prot pvp is doable. It has perhaps the best in terms of damage, CC, and survivability. However almost nobody will be able to do it successfully because you need to raid a ton and get block value/rating tank gear. With that stuff, you can pull off 12k shield slam crits.
