Since I've been here awhile but with no noticeable contributions, I've decided to make a relatively simple guide to farming Blood Furnance, as a mage.
What you need:
Guide:
- Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft
This is personally what I believe the *best* specc for this type of farming. Any frost specc [any good specc, that is] will suffice, however I believe this one is the most efficient.- Plenty of bag space. I mean plenty! I have all 20 slotters, each virtually empty except my hearthstone, rune of teleports, and the pots I pick up during runs.
- Patience. And the ability to use your stopwatch before each run to time yourself. It takes practice, but eventually you should get this down pat.
- ALWAYS BUFF BEFOREHAND! It is vital you have a Mana Gem and all buffs prior to entering the instance to ensure maximum effiency.
- Set your Hearthstone to your given and closest town in Hellfire. Only hearth/head to vendors on your fourth run. If you have smaller bags, this may be your 3rd run.
You can either download the following .rar with the pictures for below: RapidShare: Easy Filehosting. Or use this link: ImageShack® - Gallery.
1. Head to Blood Furnance. Ensure difficulty is set to "Normal" - the amount of times I've killed myself by setting it to heroic... yeah.
1A. As you enter the instance, you will notice two guards and mobs behind it.
1B. Ice lance the pack to the left and then the right. Once done, run to the center [where the arrow is pointing] and ice block. This forces the mobs to converge on you once casting is complete. Break the Ice Block, cast Shield and nova. Blink or move away. Blizzard them down together. Kill any survivors with CoC.
2. Head to the left of this picture. Go up the stairs and try not to aggro the stealthers along the way. AVOID the guards!
3. Move forward to where the Arrow points, you have to blink to get past these guards without aggroing. Or you can use the path I show later on. [Keep reading to find out!]
4. Aggro both packs to the left and pull them to the far right, where the arrow is. You will not be able to aggro all the mobs, so you have to Nova and DPS down the ones there. It is generally best to open with Shield and then recast it afterwards. It will take time to get the timing correct. There should be 1-2 leftover imps, kill them and move on.
4A. At this point you can either move on or drink up briefly before heading to the next spot. When you head through the hallway, avoid the guards as best you can, using either blink or walking.
5. Aggro the left and right pack. Make sure you pick up the patrolling Orc (as shown by the middle arrow) or he will aggro the guards, which you don't want. The far back arrow is pointing to a stealthed orc who can be a pain if you are not careful.
Killing this pack is the same as all the others, except once again you have no Ice Block. Use Counterspell to stop summons or shadowbolts (which will pull them to you) and nova + Blizzard. Use CoC if you have to. Very Basic.
6. Now for people who are not mages and choose this farming instance (which is very profitable for particular classes, but since Fury warrior nerf, it is probably the easiest on mages) you need to jump in the exact location shown on the picture. From there you can move along the side and avoid the guards entirely.
As mages, we can blink past the guards, but it is important to avoid pulling them at all costs. Not only do they shield slam and knockdown, they have above-average HP for these mobs.
7. Ignore everything in this room except for the boss. It is very simple to safely make your way to the Boss, so don't aggro at all. Once you get to the boss, pop your cds (Icy veins, Mirrow Image, trinket if you have it, etc). Bring down the Boss as fast as possible. Remember, you are timing yourself!
8. Pull all the packs that the arrow points to, including those guards, HOWEVER, before you do that it is best to summon your Water Elemental and put it on PASSIVE, that way more than likely it won't be attacked when you Ice Block. Once you have them all aggrod, Ice Block immediately, which forces the casters, once more, to converge on you.
Right here it is really preference. Sometimes I use my elemental to throw down a Nova around my Block and then shield/blink. Sometimes I nova myself and use my Elemental to nova once more when it breaks in mid-Blizzard. 99% of the time you need to Blizard twice, so pick whatever works for you the best.
9. Same as before, however you have no Ice Block and no Elemental. This pack still proves very simple, just pull them into corners or kill them in the open. You will have 1-2 full/half HP casters afterwards, but your priority is killing the melee.
10. This room involves a series of pulls. You can either start with the Red or Blue arrow'd pack, but you have to pick which one. Preferably whichever is closer to you at the given moment. Once that pack is cleared, you will be doing a FULL pull of the rest of the room.
How are you going to do this? You should by now, between all your drinking, have another Elemental up. Before the pull, you bring out your Elemental and place it on passive. Then use Cold Snap and proceed with the pull. Ice Block and rinse/repeat what you did in Step 8. Once cleared, drink up and ensure either 1 mana gem is available or one evocation.
10A. I did not get screenshots for the boss fight because it is rather simple. From each door, a group of orcs will be released. Your job is to rotate with your Elemental (you'll be resummoning it since you Cold Snap'd) and yourself on novas. The first pack, you nova and then Blizzard (one blizzard should suffice). The second, your Elemental does the same.
DO NOT LOOT RIGHT AWAY! Once the rooms are cleared, the boss will come out. Burst down the boss and proceed to loot as quickly as possible. Then move to the next room.
11. This is where a big portion of your money will be made. There are two chests in the Instance. Always one of them is locked, and the other is not. Before pulling this pack (with a cs on the right one and then a nova - make sure to watch out for patrolling packs, as they can be a pain). Ensure this chest is unlocked, if it is not, you will have to get the next one.
Generally, the chest always yields at least 5g and 1 green + cloth. I've had it drop Blues sooooo many times that it's crazy. I'll discuss how this works out for profit at the end.
---
That's it! After Step 11, you will head to the final boss. You will have to, if not a mage, use the wall jumping I showed you all to get past the guards, but you should be fine. You don't pull any mobs until you get to the 2nd last room (on ground floor) where the Felguards are. It's a very simple process, and more or less involves everything you did before. Use Ice Block and Elemental for the first pull [pull two packs] and you will be fine.
The second chest, if the first was unlocked, will be located in this room. From there, open the chest and head to the boss. Kill him and leave the instance - reset, and check your time.
Where's the Profit?:
What my profits are:
- Each run provides 22-25g in silver alone.
- BoE blues drop frequently. Items like Blade of Misfortune, Boots of the Decimater, Fist of Reckoning, Axe of the Legion can sell upwards to 200-300g. I have sold two Blades of Misfortune for 300g a piece. The rest for 200-280g.
- The greens can be DE'd if your market is strong in that level bracket. Otherwise you sell them to the vendor along with gray/greens. That pushes each run up to 60-70g in terms of profit.
- Send all the BoE blues and cloth to your bank alt. It ultimately will be more profitable to AH the cloth than to vendor it. This generally makes each run 80-100g on my server.
In one hour of farming, I make 300-380g. Sometimes more depending on luck.
Do I die? When I first started, I did. Now? Never.
Is it an easy and simple method of farming? Yeap. I've never hit the "reset" wall once, and I've always found this one of the best "instant gold" methods.
