Okay so i intended to use Moo's format for his priest guide, but thats way to many [Fonts] [Size] and [Color] breaking it down old school, credit to moo for giving me the idea. <3
Spec
Basically, the one thing a paladin needs is crit, paladins are very good at raid healing aswell as Maintank/Maintarget healing -- IE: Some of the instants for Naxx (KT) Holy Shock + Divine Favor -- Genius! Anyways, onto the Spec. WorldofWarcraft.com -> Info -> Classes -> Paladin -> Talent Calculator
Huge link, yes i know.. thats the BASIC spec pre 3.1 -- mainly what you're going for as you can see by the spec is Lots of crit.
Stats
As i said in the first part, main stat would be crit -- Obvious stats go as Crit/Spell power/Mana / some more crit. Gearing and Gemming can be quite.. for lack of a better word, boring? Well.. the instances you need to be running for gear aswell as what factions to get rep with.. (Argent Crusade) is a must for Exalted a very nice ring/helm for them. Kirin'Tor for the Head enchant (Pre-Sons of Hodir Exalted) Those are the basic reputations you need to build.
Rotations
As a holy paladin you don't need to worry about over-healing as much (Judgement of Light) Assures you're over-healing more than anyone. I use mouse-over healing (personal preference) it's all on what your reactions are and how you deal with sticky situations .. The basic rotation i've used is obviously known spells "Holy Light / Holy Shock / Flash of Light / Sacred Shield" I use holy shock on everything when it's up, to get a crit then instant FoL after the effect, sacred shield is a must on the tank, the extra crit ability with flash of light tends to save mana and lives. Beacon should also be used on maintank when you're raid healing to midigate most of the damage incoming to him. -Thanks Meetyourmumm
Situational Effects
1) Tanks getting hammered, needs heals immedietly, but you see you're getting low from ... AoE Damage? (Cast Holy Shock (macro) Divine Favor on tank and heal yourself, Holy Light is a long cast time but with the spec you get increased haste so its rockin about 1.8 sec cast --
2) Boss where the healing is 0 until the aura is moved for 7 seconds...
ALOT of people are taking damage, you're trying to pick and choose whos important to heal, and whos not. The way i do this is holy shock (auto-crit) and holy light the next person and Flash of light -- 3 heals in a 5-6 second duration is better than most can offer, paladins have the capability of doing what other healers cant.
Gems/Enchants
It's a bit obvious the stats i've told you to go for, Intellect / Spell power / Crit -- I never gem crit, most of the time 16 int or 19 Sp depending on if the socket bonus is worth sacrificing the stat. Enchant wise you're going for Spell power on most items
ie: Wep (50 SP) unless your amazingly rich and wanna go with 63
ie: Shield(25 Intellect) Highest int on shield i believe
ie: Boots(Icewalker) for the crit/hit (Crits important!)
ie: Hands(Spell power 28 i believe?) Main raw spellpower will increase your healing immensly
ie: Chest (stats +etc..
ie:Bracers (30 SP)
ie:Head / Shoulders (wintergrasp chant (pvp) or wyrmcrest and sons of hodir "thanks moo"
I can't think of anything else to let you know, if something anyone knows that I didn't mention, please let me know, I'll jump right on it.
OH WAIT!
ADDONS
For healing the addons are quite numerous - - since i use mouse-over healing I use Grid and mouse-over the box to continuously have a step ahead of all healers to save the tank from dying due to lack of co-ordination.
As moo said, visual heal saves your mana like crazy, no use in spamming heals when they're getting healed, attention on another target!
DBM (For bosses with non-healing aura's) Loatheb etc..
Thats about it, all the addons i use are quite helpful, unless you're a champ and use blizzards raid groups (I used to)
For all you paladins, stay strong, holy is the shit, give it time and you will be god. GOODLUCK !!!!
Hope it helped, and thanks again moo for the idea, you're a god.
LOATHEB
One thing you should do on Loathweb (healing debuff boss Naxx) is when you see 1 second left on the debuff, start your Holy Light cast (your timing it so its casting while the debuff is still on) as soon as that's casted do a holy shock then a flash of light.
One more thing is during the healing debuff phase you can still Beacon and Sacred Shield your targets. In 25 man's im normally in charge of one group on my own. While priests do COH etc. to their whole group. During the healing debuff phase im keeping an eye out on who has the lowest hps. He will be the one I cast sacred shield on The person with the second lowest hps will be the one I beacon. (You will not heal him at all as he will get healed by the beacon power when your healing the others) As soon as you see 1 second left on the timer start your Holy Light cast on the target with the lowest hps (the one with sacred shield) Holy Shock one of the remaining 3 people and flash of light whoever else needed a heal. Right there you just brought 4 people up to full health in your group in one healing debuff phase.
Make sure to Judge the boss during the healing debuff phase as well to always have Jusdgement of the Pure up at all times.
Also I will add whenever your healing a Raid most likely as a Holy Pally you will be in charge of the MT by yourself. (Pallys shine at single target healing and are very mana efficient) When you are in charge of healing the Main Tank Beacon yourself so that way you'll always be topped off. Because if you die the tank dies and the Raid Wipes. This will also make it easier on whoever is in charge of Raid heals as well. --bokyong
