    ''Undercutting'' In Trade Channel

As some of you know when you receive gold from the AH you only get 95% of the original price you put it up for (5% off).. but what most of you don't know is that you can undercut quite a bit trading items in person... This well give you FULL value of the item.

    For example:

I put up a Eternal Fire up on the AH for 20g.. Someone bought my eternal fire, but for some reason I only got 19g because they take 5% off...

So how can I use this for my advantage?

You can sell your items using trade channel and undercut 5% off to make it look like there getting a better deal (which they are), but the only difference is your selling your items faster.

So how do I subtract 10% off?

Move the decimal point one place to the left, to compute 10%. Then subtract that amount from the original price. For example, if it costs $29.95. 10% off, would be $2.99 - then you subtract $2.99 from $29.95. which is $26.96.
Edit: To compute 5% all you have to do is cut the 10% in half.
(Hi there, how do i calculate 10% off a product? - Yahoo! Answers)

The only difference is that wow uses gold, silver, and copper.. which can be a bit confusing for items that sell for like 19g25s.. but for the items that cost 1000g+ its farely easy, for example.. if your selling a item for 1000g+ you can under cut a lot in trade channel.. For instance, there are prisms deck on my server going for 1200g each, and I just couldn't sell them.. so I did the math and turned 1200g into $12.00, then moved the decimal point one point to the left so it was 120g..Then half 120g, which is 60g, then subtracted 60g from 1200 and then sell it for for 1140g.

For double digits all you have to do is look at the first digit, then subtract that off the original amount.. So 10% off of 50g would be 45g.

Also, you can multiply by .95 to get 5% off,

I have used this method a lot to sell abyss crystals, abyss crystals are 100g on my server, but subtracting 5% off and selling it in trade for 95g.. But I usually under cut a bit more, and compute 10% (selling abyss crystals for 90g are even more faster than 95g)

Sorry for everyone when i first made this post saying it was 10% off, I was wrong. Sorry.

Yeah, I know it's common since but I was talking about this to some people in WoW about the 10% off fee from AH and they didn't even realize it so I decided to share.. I also didn't see any other posts like this.

    Thanks for the rep.

Pretty lousy/confusing math.. just get a calculator and multiply the original price with 0.90 and you'll get the -10% final price.

And selling on the trade channel for a few gold less doesn't guarantee you'll sell faster, because a lot more people will see your auction than see your trade message.

    1) It's not that hard of math.. Using my example, I converted 1200g into 12.00, then moved the decimal point to the left to make it 120g, then subtracted 120g from 1200g which gives 1080g.. Using a calcuator isn't worth the time IMO when you can do simple math in your head in only 3 seconds or so.

    2) No, it does not guarantee that you well sell it faster using trade.. But, saying that less people well see it in trade channel rather than auction house isn't true... You wouldn't beleive the ammount of times I saw someone selling certain items in trade that I never heard of/never new of.. I only sell rare items in trade, weapons, darkmoone fair cards, and event items. The auction house can't convince players to buy your product, but in trade you can.

But thanks for the tip about multiplying by .90, I didn't know this. I well ad this to my guide.

    What 10%?

    Dude, you're so wrong.

"A fee will be charged when you list an item for auction. This fee is based on the length of the auction as well as the vendor value of the item. If your item is bid on and eventually sells, the fee will be refunded, but a 5% cut will be taken by the auction house (15% in neutral auction houses). If the auction ends without a bid, the fee is lost (see Formulas: Auction House: Fees). "

Auction House - WoWWiki - Your guide to the World of Warcraft

    10%? Lol.

    YOU are wrong...
10% is what the auction house takes on the gold you should receive when the item is SOLD, not when you list it...
