My recient misery with mmowned has caused me to write this guide to help future mmowned.com users not get hacked as I did.

Few weeks ago, as I normally did came to check mmowned.com for updates on guides/strats/hacks I used to use. I have contributed 3 guides in my time here over the span of my membership here, so not being a leecher I still give what i can. Beyond that point, I came across a guide and like normal i clicked on a hyperlink to a "Map" of some mining nodes. Unknowingly I recieved a virus/keylogger within seconds of the click. I didnt know what I had until it was too late. Mind you 3 years a+,net+, c++ expierience has givin me some leeway on not getting hacked. I will not reveal the "Author" of the guide because I want everyone to realize that no matter who writes the guides. There all possibly 'keyloggers'. Few days pass and come home from work, tried to log in and within a span of a few hours the perp managed to change my pass 2 times then hacked to ban my account. My purpose to this guide is to inorm you of what you can do to prevent this. I will display a list of FREE and explain on how I have never had a hack since I have had a computer.

* It is important that I cant stress enough that every time you go to a site that you suspect will give you keyloggers/hacks (pron/free guides/free hacks) you use these scanners everytime to clear up anything it left behind or is about to.

• Avast! Antivirus - Update asap, simple but powerfull antivirus scanner. *
• CCleaner - Improves the performance and cleans nasty garbage left behind on applications/windows. Also has a reg cleaner. Highly recommend using the regcleaner. **
• Hijack This - Prob the most important out of all of these. Be very carefull what you delete. Google if anything any of the programs installed. Scans for spyware/running processes/hidden processes. Easy and fast. **
• Kaspersky Virus Removal - A easy and painless but potent virus scanner. This linked with Malwarebytes will give you top notch scans. **
• Regcleaner - Also another reg scanner/cleaner. How to use- Tools/Registry Cleanup/ Do them all+rightclick. *
• MRU-Blaster - Scans for Mru's which slow down your computer quite a bit. You will notice a bit speed boost using this. **
• Spybot Seach and Destroy - Scans for spyware and other threats detected. May take a bit of time. *
• Malwarebytes' Anti-Maleware - Detected 90% of the virus. Simple as that. **

To sum it all up, I got lazy with the scans and have averted being hacked using these simple steps. Yes it will take up some time but as they say, you dont know how it is untill your in there shoes. And yes blizz did overturn my ban. GL HF.

I've got to say, that is a good guide. This also happend to me, but I only got the newest NAV, and it has been working good so far.

Altough I do like the faster PC boosting thing, +1rep for that.

Nice but wrong section however. This is for guides that deal with something inside Warcraft, not how to prevent being keylogged.

i basically dont click any links anymore unless they are obviously not keyloggers (like visible photobucket pictures)

Hmm... on one hand, I would only like to see WoW stuff here (don't like the age of conan section), but on the other hand, keepin urself from being hacked on wow is kind of relating to world of warcraft... so thanks i guess

I'd like to know how a keylogger got installed if you were running an AV program and all you did was click on a link to a map... What exactly was it?

well, it was a well known gaming hack programs something like gamehacklinks or something like that. I will not reveal the authors name but... do recommend to be weary. It was a simple hyperlink to a mining route in a post.

I can tell you that there is no keylogger you automaticly get when clicking a link unless you download something and run it.. And when you told me the author when you PM'd me, I lol'd.. His link was to image shack.. I clicked it my self and its been 3 days and still haven't got hacked. So please, shut up

Keyloggers spread in much the same way that other malicious programs spread. Excluding cases where keyloggers are purchased and installed by a jealous spouse or partner, and the use of keyloggers by security services, keyloggers are mostly spread using the following methods):

• a keylogger can be installed when a user opens a file attached to an email;
• a keylogger can be installed when a file is launched from an open-access directory on a P2P network;
• a keylogger can be installed via a web page script which exploits a browser vulnerability. The program will automatically be launched when a user visits a infected site;

• a keylogger can be installed by another malicious program already present on the victim machine, if the program is capable of downloading and installing other malware to the system.
