Welcome to my thread about Ret Paladins. I will try to make this as extensive as possible, for some of you new paladins or some veterans looking for some tricks.
Arena: 2v2
This is not a Ret Paladin strong point. However the following teams are viable 2v2 partners with Ret Paladins.
1) Rogue/Paladin.
This is argruably the best 2v2 partner for a Ret Paladin. The key to success here is Stun coordination. You want your rogue to be calling his Cheap Shot, Kidney Shot and you should both be calling trinket uses for your opponents. Use your repentance in coordination with blinds. Here your rogue with be able to survive on his own for a while allowing you to do much/most of the damage. Remember to BoP.
2) Mage/Paladin
This is a decent combo. Your mage and you both have "oh shit " buttons (Divine Shield/Ice Block) which add tremendous amounts of survivblity. Here off-healing is very important. Use your repentance as a blind and give your mage some room to cast while your hunting down the target. If your mage is being constantly interupted its perfectly viable to BoP and lets him get some casts in to finish the target.
3) Warlock/Paladin
While the worse then the 2 above combos, this combo can do seroius damage. Your partner again, will most likely be the focus. Your warlocks job here is to dot everything then focus on crowd controling the off-targets, while you bash on the focus with the DoTs ticking on the target.
4) Warrior/Paladin
Probably the least viable of the 4, i was considering not even adding this but. This combo revolves around the warrior's MS and your incredible burst damage. He will require more care then other class (Cleanses, Freedom, etc). You have to always give him freedom in front of you because MS needs to be on the target at all times. Use repentance to CC the off-target. This team can be very good against druid teams if played right.
Arena: 3v3
Ret Paladins do better in this bracket, here they real begin to do damage.
1) Paladin/Druid/Warrior
The most common out of Ret Paladin 3v3 team out there. With a druids cyclone for CC and ability to avoid death for hours it seems. This team is very deadly. With a warrior's mortal strike and your burst this team can do very well. You will have to take care of your warrior partner, however because he will almost always be CC'd. Here using your bubble and Freedoming the Warrior is viable as you both will be unsnarable. Rogue/Mage/Priest counter this team quite easily, and seeing as theres many of those, it can be a struggle to hit higher ratings.
2) Paladin/Shaman/Warrior
This team is a gamble. Without the druid your shaman will take a beating hard and fast. The keys here are Windfury and Bloodlust. With the added burst from these factors its hard for the other team to keep up. You will have to take care of your warrior partner, however because he will almost always be CC'd.Here using your bubble and Freedoming the Warrior is viable as you both will be unsnarable. Use repentace as you would a blind.
3) Paladin/Rogue/Mage
This is a great triple DPS team. You have lots responsiblity to care for your teamates (Cleanse, BoP, etc.). BoP is critical here. Your mage has to be on top of CC'ing as well. Double healer rapes this team. This team is a great counter to Rogue/Mage/Priest.
4) Paladin/SPriest/Rogue
Another great team. Here your sacraficing your ability to CC the targets well (Polymorph) but adding a great offensive dispel, as well as extra life, and of course the Pally killer Mass Dispel. Again you have you have lots responsiblity to care for your teamates (Cleanse, BoP, etc.) BoP is critical.
Arena: 5v5
There are so many combo viable here that it would take me until next year to write about all of them. A good forum to look up 5v5 strats can be found here However ill give a few general pointers.
1) Depending on weather you have a dispeller on your side, you have to dispel.
2) Use repentance to crowd-control a healer when the focus target is at low HP
3) Keep Blessing of Freedom on your warrior (If you have one)
4) And most importantly if you have a Shaman threaten to kill him if he chooses to put grounding instead of WindFury (Optional)6):
