[Guide] Make gold out of the pre-Wotlk patch

    Introduction

Ok I think you read phrases like "I´m a leecher for too long" etc. too often so lets skip this part
Although I want you to know the other reason why I´ve written this guide - I´m from Germany and want to improve my English ^^ I´d like you to tell me my mistakes but please don´t flame me

Blizz annouced that there will be a pre-Wotlk Patch in "a few weeks" and the new profession called "Inscription" will be aviable up to skill 375. Thanks to the beta we know that herbs will be crushable to gain mats (like disenchanting gear). So there will be alot of ways to make gold out of it and I (try to ^^) explain them in this guide.

    Professions

There are two ways to make profit of this patch with professions - the first and better is herbalism the second inscription itself, but lets focus on the first for now.

I don´t have to explain that many people will learn this new profession for diffrent reasons, some just like to try and others want to support their guild etc. With inscription-recipes needing herbs the demand for herbs will increase highly although the supply won´t so the price for herbs will go straight up.

If you have a char with no professions or you´re not really happy with one of those I highly recommend you to become a herbalism. Best would be a druid (because they don´t have to dismount) but atleast it has to be a level 70 char with an epic flyer to make it really effective. You have plenty of time to skill it up and gather a nice huge amount of herbs until the patch releases.

Now you will ask where and which herbs to gather, I recommend to farm in the outlands because there you can find them (much more) faster. Since I have no highskill recipes I can´t tell you which herb will sell best, you farm while making dailys and if you see that not many players are in that area (/who). Just farm the herbs which are at the moment expensive (probably netherbloom and nightmare vale) and hope that their price will even go up.
Only if you have a char below level 70 or without an epic flyer farming routes in the old world makes sense, good routes will be Tanaris-Ungoro-Silithus, but then you have to fly long. Better would be Shatt portal - Uc - West Plaguelands - East Plaguelands.

Using the Addon Gatherer would be a big help and a Riding Crop could also make the farming it a bit faster.

The other way is becoming a inscriptor yourself, but I would only do this if you have also herbalism (atleast with an other char). The idea of this is simple, you just skill up as fast as you can and try to get some rare recieps. Since you´re one of only a few people who can make the real neat things they´ll pay you alot. Although be aware that many people will try to get a monopole, you´ll need a bit (drop-)luck. To speed up the skilling time you should have enough herbs before the release of the patch. And take a look at this nice Inscription Leveling Guide - credits go to Skapocalypse

I myself find becoming a herbalist alot better, but some people don´t want to farm so I mentioned this way too.

    Auction House

So far about professions, but there is an other way to make gold of them without having themself - the auction house, the center of the WoW-economy. To make this work best you need a level 1 toon, who is always! waiting between the auction house and mail. Send him some big bags and gold, best would be about 2000 gold.

The basic idea is buying all/most herbs in the ah to hort and resell them for much more gold with the release of the patch. That´s just the basic idea, so let me get more detailed.

Best would be starting right now buying, the reason is simple - the longer you wait the more people will have the idea of buying herbs BEFORE the patch, i think about 1-2 weeks before the price will increase.
The other reason is if you buy some and then wait for 1-2 days the price will only go up for short and then fall agian so you can buy them for almost the same amount. So dont buy off the hole ah at once, only a few stacks of each.

Now you may ask - what to buy. I´ve read (but I don´t find the source anymore) that probably the same itemlevel will be crushed into the same mats. So just buy the cheapest around each level, although a few of the expesiver ones will be good if you need them for perhaps some special recipes.

My assumption on how the prices will increase:

    - Level 1-40: First increase, but then falling back to normal fast (like linen cloth will never cost 10g a peacebloom neither will)
    - 40-60: Big increase, and staying high for much longer until most people skilled up (because nearly nobody likes to farm without an epic flyer)
    - 60-70: Not that high increasing, but staying high until the release of the addon (because you need them now for alchemy and inscription)

So I would focus on the highend old-world and the low outland herbs. Herbs around level 1-40 are found too often and there alot of twinks gathering them, but the higher you get the less you see someone gathering them. And Netherbloom or Nightmare Vale are (on my server) simply too expensive, i can buy 3 stacks Dreaming Glory or 1 stack Netherbloom for the same amount of gold.

One last tipp until I come to my conlusion: If your bags are too small then send you´re stuff to a toon, he´ll resend them after 30 days and then you have an other 30 days until you´re herbs are deleted.

    Conclusion

Ahhh now I finally got there - I hope you understand now how patches can and will affect the economy and how you can make money of it.

Also I really hope you enjoyed my guide and were not critted by a wall of text

    So far,

Mh yeah both threads talk about inscription and herbalism but not the way I did:

Your first thread is btw a nice guide, but there´s only one short pharagraph about making money with the new profression

And the secound is - no offense - a litte bit short i think. And he´s not talking about becoming a herbalist or how the prices of herbs will increase, only how you will make money with an highskilled inscriptor.

My guide instead is about chaning professions and horting mats to sell them more expensive. The Idea is the same but the thinking and way of profit is diffrent.

However, this is my point of view.

Thank you for the guide, it's much appreciated. I'm going to work on getting as many of the herbs as I can.
For those of you hoping to follow this, I suggest using this "Inscription Guide" to help you decide which herbs to buy. Most people will follow a guide like this, once inscription goes live.
Inscription Guide - Inscription Leveling Guide

I hope I'm not offending, or anything, but you asked for someone to give you some advice, assuming something was wrong in your statement. I am doing so, with the intentions of helping you out. :P

    "Advise" is actually spelled "Advice."
"Ur" is not something you should get into the habit of writing. Just put in the your/you're. As you get older, you'll find that writing "ur" will start to infringe upon your writing, confusing you of the tense.
    English is capitalized.
    In the parenthesis-
Don't use the numeric sign for numbers under twenty.
    im should be I'm
Rly is Really, but that's an accepted shorthand.
    Put a comma before ", but... "
Your next sentence isn't phrased correctly. Fixed: "To and too aren't the same, there is a difference when you say, "something is too big" and "something is to big." Don't use apostrophes instead of quotes, unless inside of an on-going quote.
Blause is spelled "blouse" and "espensive" is spelled "expensive"

I hope I helped you understand the writing a little bit more!

Maybe you weren't around at the release of Jewelcrafting, but Copper Ore was at a rediculous cost and stacks were constantly around that cost or more at launch and for quite a bit afterwards. I for one will be dropping my pre-300 mining to go for herbs and will be hording a buttload of Peacebloom!

Keep in mind though, people were starting level 1 Belfs and Draenei. Those switching sides did not want to also send a shit-ton of mats to those characters so instead they just sent gold and were buying them off AH so the price quickly escalated. I know lots of people who did this. So that the PL'd toon could also PL their profession.

I think the Economic impact of WotLK will be quite different than BC. Blizzard is planning a similar type of layout for Northrend so people will know what to expect. I for one am looking forward to it.

Also, something I just thought of: Lots of people remember how the price of ore and bars went up with BC came out. I think this time ALOT of people are going to be farming low level materials, so much so that AH will be flooded with these low level mats. Im thinking the price wont go up that high. The combination of how easy the low level mats are to find and the flood the AH will see... im not expecting a 10g price jump.

Of course I could be wrong, we will see.

You seem to be right, there will be a huge diffrencene between the release of BC and WotLK. Although this time nobody will start at level 1, so after a week or two all low-level mats will be sold and nobody has the time to farm them because they go for 80 or play their deathknights.

I also think you have to hurry now, on my server the prices for herbs are already going crazy. Usually a stack of terocone sells for about 25-30g on my serv, but yesterday the cheapest stack of Terocone was for 69g in the ah, today their back again at 35g. You see, you have to be very careful when to buy and when to sell, prices could change everyday for alot more than you ever thought.

And thanks to all who repped me, I´m glad you like my first guide

If the prices on your server aren´t too high i would prefer the higher herbs of the old world like Arthas Tears, Sungrass, Plaguebloom, Mountain Silversage, etc. because they are harder to farm than the outland-herbs but veryone needs them to skill up. Although you have to sell them a bit faster than outland-herbs because when everyone finished skilling they dont need them anymore.
