[Tutorial] Create Custom Macro Icons

Before posting, I searched for "Icon" and "Interface". I also looked the suggestion threads, and none of them contained this information.

Off we go;

You have prolly created a macro before. And then ofc, you have given it an Icon. Some people takes a random. Other finds, what fits to it. And some struggle to find the right.. It just aint there.. But.. It can be. It is possible tocreate your own Icons, Without deleting any excisting ones.

Let's say your a rogue. You hate the icon of your Kick Ability, and can't find any good icon at macro. With this information, why care?:P

How to:

First find a picture you want it to be. We will take and edit the rogue ablity, "Kick". So we find a picture of... Chuck Norris. We google him and find it.

Great. (Chuck Norris)
Save it to your desktop, or anywhere, where you can find it:P

Now open up your wowfolder
(If you don't know what it is, Delete WoW right away, please.)
Open up Interface folder and Create a new folder named "Icons"


Good so far.

Now, This bit i will explain in Photoshop CS3, because that's the program i use. You can do this in other programs aswell, but you'll have to figure yourself:P

Step1: Open the picture in Photoshop

Step2: Press 'Alt+Crtl+I' or Press the "Image" tab, and then "Image Size..."




Step3: Unmark "Constrain Proportions"

Step4: Change "Width" and "Height" to 32.

Step5: Press OK




Step6: Press 'Shift+Ctrl+S' or Press the "File" tab, and then "Save As..."

Step7: Find your New Interface Folder(Icons)

Step8: Give it any name and Press the DropDown menu, "Format" And choose: Targa (*.TGA;*.VDA;*.ICB;*.VST)




Step9: Save the icon

Step10: Choose 24bits/pixel, Make sure Compress (RLE) is NON-checked, and press OK




Step11: You're Done. You may now browse through Macro Icons, And find your lewt icon. I think it can be everywhere, but i have only had some at Start, Some at Middle, and some at end.

EDIT: IF anything went wrong, You will know it. The Icon will be completely green. That means wrong size, wrong format, or vise versa - There is also a chance, that it will overwrite an existing icon. So if u sure looked everything through and cant find it, delete it and redo. Won't damage your game and/or gameplay

If there is a green icon, something went wrong

Since it's TGA, if u made somethign wrong, it might go over another icon, and make that on invisible. Happened for me once. had to start all over and do it exactly.

thats true but i doubt any level 70 has full S4 yet and even if they do they definitly do not have only a backpack so most likely this is on a private server although if you post a screenie on retail here that is very good advice
