Wotlk Dungeon Plate tank gear guide

A pre raid tank gear overview

Well as I intended to be a tank in Wrath of the Lich king I have compiled a list of tank gear to try to get a hold of as a start set, before moving on to better items from heroics and reputation. So this is my list of items that all should be obtained easy from normal dungeons or other entry level content ways. This list isnt aimed at anyone in particular just generally take a look if ye want to get a overview over plate options. This guide does then of course not cover druid gear. I have also picked the item I see as most ideal in every slot instead of putting multiple options. I might expand it at a later time. I have however added two options in some slots where I have seen it fit. This mainly when theres been one dungeon option at the side of blacksmithing options so those with a lot of gold to spare or with blacksmithing know they don't need to go for the dungeon one.

Weapon: Eternally Folded Blade (Eternally Folded Blade - Item - World of Warcraft)

This is dropped by Volkhan (Volkhan - NPC - World of Warcraft) in the Halls of Lightning.

Shield: Titansteel Shield Wall (Titansteel Shield Wall - Item - World of Warcraft)

This is a epic shield crafted by Blacksmith, materials is found in the link above. This item is on level with those from Naxxramas 10 man.

Alt shield: Leeka's Shield (Leeka's Shield - Item - World of Warcraft)

This is my dungeon alternative if the shield above is too expensive. It drops from the chest that is spawned when Mal'Ganis is defeated in Stratholme Past. (Dark Runed Chest - Object - World of Warcraft)

Helm: Tempered Titansteel Helm (Tempered Titansteel Helm - Item - World of Warcraft)

This is another blacksmithing option with materials listed on the link above, I can't tell much about the cost of these items since no one know where the AH prices will be put before launch I guess.

    Alt helm:
Faceguard of Punishment (Faceguard of Punishment - Item - World of Warcraft)

Not the best item I seen, but found no better that didn't drop in heroic, so I would definatly go for the crafted option in this category. Unless it is too expensive that is what I will do atleast. This is anyway a reward from the quest Vengeance Be Mine! (Vengeance Be Mine! - Quest - World of Warcraft)

Neck: Amulet of Deflected Blows (Amulet of Deflected Blows - Item - World of Warcraft)

This item drops from Skadi the Ruthless (Skadi the Ruthless - NPC - World of Warcraft) in Utgarde Pinnacle

This looked to me like the best blue non heroic drop and it seems easy to obtain, so this will be what I go for before I can move on to heroics/reputation items/raid gear.

Shoulders: Crusader's Square Pauldrons (Crusader's Square Pauldrons - Item - World of Warcraft)

This is actually a bind on equip item so I don't know how easy it will be to obtain, but seemingly the drop chance is decent between 1-3% from trash mobs in Stratholme Past. It is definatly a nice item and worth trying to get.

    Cloak:
Cloak of Peaceful Resolutions (Cloak of Peaceful Resolutions - Item - World of Warcraft)

This is the first reputation item I added, which I didn't intend, but you do only require Honored reputation with The Wyrmrest Accord (The Wyrmrest Accord - Faction - World of Warcraft) which should be easily obtainable through running instances since you can Champion that faction.

Chest: Breastplate of the Solemn Council (Breastplate of the Solemn Council - Item - World of Warcraft)

This is another reputation item which is added for the same reason as above. The requirement is revered with the same faction as you need for the cloak. The Wyrmrest Accord and this is pretty convenient. You can just champion this faction while running other instances for the other gear in this guide.

Wrist: Svala's Bloodied Shackles (Svala's Bloodied Shackles - Item - World of Warcraft)

This item drops from Svala Sorrowgrave (Svala Sorrowgrave - NPC - World of Warcraft) in Utgarde Pinnacle.

Gloves: Giant-Sized Gauntlets (Giant-Sized Gauntlets - Item - World of Warcraft)

Another reputation item, this time revered with Frenzyheart Tribe (Frenzyheart Tribe - Faction - World of Warcraft) might take a bit time, but I didn't find that much viable options.

Belt: Girdle of Obscuring (Girdle of Obscuring - Item - World of Warcraft)

Drops from Mage-Lord Urom (Mage-Lord Urom - NPC - World of Warcraft) in The Oculus.

Leggings: Daunting Legplates (Daunting Legplates - Item - World of Warcraft)

Made by blacksmithing with the mats in the link above. I didn't find much viable options for leggings, a lot of heroic blues/epics and raid items.

Boots: Tempered Titansteel Treads (Tempered Titansteel Treads - Item - World of Warcraft)

Another blacksmithing made item with pretty much the same mats as all the others. Again ye can see the mats in the link above.

Alt boots: Slaughterhouse Sabatons (Slaughterhouse Sabatons - Item - World of Warcraft)

Drops from Meathook (Meathook - NPC - World of Warcraft) in Stratholme Past.

Ring: Titanium Earthguard Ring (Titanium Earthguard Ring - Item - World of Warcraft)

Jewelcrafting made item with good stats and its boe, sadly unique equipped.

    Ring 2: Dragonflight Great-Ring (Dragonflight Great-Ring - Item - World of Warcraft)

Drops from Cache of Eregos (Cache of Eregos - Object - World of Warcraft) this chest is found within The Oculus.

Trinket: Figurine - Monarch Crab (Figurine - Monarch Crab - Item - World of Warcraft)

This is a jewelcrafting made item as the name pretty much tells. The mats are listed above. Trinkets are a difficult thing, but this one had 63 stamina and a decent use effect so it seems ok.

Trinket 2: Seal of the Pantheon (Seal of the Pantheon - Item - World of Warcraft)

Drops from Loken (Loken - NPC - World of Warcraft) last boss in the Halls of Lightning.

This concludes the guide for now, it is not perfect, but it works as a basic guideline and im sure you can find some use for it. Further on I would note that Championing = that you wear a tabard of a faction you get a certain amount of reputation with that faction in any level 80 instance.

To be fair tho this covers more of the entry level obtainable items than yours does as yours have a lot of the heroic and even raid gear in it. So both can to some degree be usful as you wont jump to heroics with the gear you leveled in. You have surely put a lot of time into your guide tho so kudos to you.

Isn't advertising in other people's thread considered an infraction?

He is merely pointing out that information is still out there, which is generally better than he comming in here yelling repost so I don't see it as a problem. However I disagree that my information is useless because of his guide, which generally means I feel both guides should retain the right to stay on the forum and people can then make their own choices what to do and what to follow. My advice would generally be using this guide for your newly dinged 80 and then moving on to his when trying to figure out where to go from where this guide ends.
