Even if it doesn't work too well, good guide anyways
I'm pretty sure many people know about the scam where you give a renter your account, they pay for your time, and then you recall the account.
However, I think I may have gone into new territory with this scam (in a good way for us, I mean), by doing this. P.S. - I did a search on this and found no results, so sorry if it is a repost.
So, you're out of gametime and for whatever reason can't get more in a morally acceptable fashion. What do ya do? No, don't call the ghostbusters, make a MD post or make use of some way to get the renters attention.
They're talking to you now, and you just wanna get back to your drug a.k.a. WoW. Don't rush them; they'll be rushing you plenty enough. Just tell them about your character for a few sentences and sneak in the fact that it has no time. Now, they want your character, and you want your time.
WAIT!
Do not trade yet. First, change the password to whatever is fine with you to be given (I usually change it to password1 or some silly stuff like that). Next, set up parental controls so that the entire play schedule is RED (there's a button you can click to fill the schedule with red, just so you all know). Then, set up the controls with a good password that cannot be guessed by the renters, and WRITE IT DOWN.
Now, this means that once they put in the credit card info or such and try to log in, they will be locked out. One, this is good because they can't touch your character in the time that you spend not changing the password after they add time (we all hate the bar changes and item moving they do in those few hours after they activate it). Also, this allows you to have an alarm system for when they renew the subscription, as they will ask you "WTF m8". Another beneficial thing about the parental controls is that now, you don't have to spam reload on the account management page to see when they add time, as they cannot get on the account anyway.
Then, it is your task to change the password and unlock the parental controls, and then go back to the world of Azeroth and have fun.
Another footnote: If this was unclear to anyone, just post down below and I'll try to answer your question as best I can.

That's pretty nifty. I'll have to try this for my rogue's account (or maybe my account with my rogue...)
Haha, well, it's worked for me the two times I needed to do it, once was a month ago. Since they used a credit card and also don't know how to call Blizzard and cancel a subscription, I just left it on there for my current main account. (The other time I did this was with a scammed account, and they paid for a year until I got the account banned for "buying" gold).
There's a little "end subscription" link at the botom of your account managment page, if they have the credit card on the account they can recall it
Yeah, but once you change the password and get the account back, they can't get on your page, so they can't and won't use that link.
This scam is hinging on the fact that you will be able to see that they put a CC on your account and have time to change the password. I am not sure how it works now, but i am pretty sure that if you are logged into account management you will be log in there even if the password is changed, i could be wrong though, so what prevents them from canceling the credit card even after u changed the pass?
"This scam is hinging on the fact that you will be able to see that they put a CC on your account and have time to change the password"
The scam actually relies on the fact that they usually put time on, and then attempt to log in, but can't. And so long as they can't play the game, your characters are safe, and they can't do much from the management page (for whatever reason), so you have as much time as you want to change the password back.
"what prevents them from canceling the credit card even after u changed the pass?"
Good question. I honestly don't know why, but both times I have done it, they never cancel it. Maybe it's because they have to log in on multiple accounts frequently, so they're logged out when you do this. Maybe they don't realize there is the link there. Maybe they can't call Blizzard up to have it removed. Not sure what their deal is, but I know that 2 for 2 times I've done it without them cancelling the card, or my account getting in trouble.
No, i mean if they are in the account management area, that is the same place where it says, cancel subscription, which means that they can cancel it from there. These guys know at least that its a waste of money to have an account that they cant use.
I know, but for some reason they just don't. And honestly, I don't care for their reason for not doing so, I'm content with reporting to everyone here that they don't, so others can benefit![]()
You know any nice sites thats willing to pay for ur gametime??
I usually just make a fake WTB post on Markee and see who asks to rent. I don't know any sites, and I feel sites are more likely to have some form of taking action.
Just posted on markeedragons about my account to rent out...ill link my post form there;
Code:I would like to rent out my woW account with an 80 druid on Grim Batol pvP realm. He is FULL epic from naxx 10/25 and from OS 10/25. he also has most of the hatefull gear - this is all resto/balance gear. I also have half epic half blue gear for feral, some i hatefull others form Heroics. All gear is fully enchanted, making his AP in feral about 5000 and his healing/dmg fully specced to about 1800-2000. I would like to be paid in gold to my character, his professions are skinning and mining and both are at 450 so farming on it will be really easy. Contact me on msn for more details and to negotiate prices(gold); [[[[[email protected]]]]] i will be online during all today and tomorrow from 2.20pm untill around 4am today(british time) and roughly 1pm to 4am tomorrow.
If this works in getting game time on my account i will +rep when its off CD. i have been repping a lot latly
All right, I usually say I'm selling the character, but whatever works for ya.
Remember to put up parental controls, and it usually takes them up to a day to put the time on. Just repeatedly ask them if they're started using it, and rush them by saying "If you do not start soon, I'll have to take my business elsewhere". That has worked for me.
dude my account got temporary suspended after trying out your stunt. the renter company called blizzard to cancel the credit card details . and blizzard prolly checked the name of the credit card holder with the info i have on my acc.
now my acc is temporary suspended. how do i solve this? arghh
