use windows movie maker to edit/compress, and you have to make a youtube account to put it on youtube.

    Re: Fraps / Youtube

I'm on a video production degree course and i can tell you the reason your movies are so big is becuase of the codec you are using. You are probably exporting using the default settings and ending up with a massssssive .avi file.

Becuase i dont know the program your using, I cant really give you step by step instructions, however i do advise you stay well clear of Windows Movie Maker. It gives 99.9% of films a very very cheap, ****ty feel with boring plugins and effects that get very very bland...unelss ofc, you dont feel like spending time, effort and all that on editing.

WEhen it comes to exporting, try looking at the codec your using. Many gamers go for the 'divx' codec, which is perfectly respectable and (as far as i know) creates an avi file with good quality and small(er) filezise. Best thing is its free from www.divx.com

In the industry, mpeg2 is the benchmark of compression/quality. but to do this, you may need a special plugin or activation depending on the program your using. Also, im not sure if youtube supports mpeg's (they should). If you have the option of using mpeg's, then i strgonly suggest you give it a go. On a side note, if you do mpeg's for desktop, i also suggest you use 'square' pixels, rather than circular '0.9' (default) pixels for quality reasons.

Anyway, im rambling a bit. If you tell me what program you are using to edit, then I may be able to help you a bit more with better quidelines.
