How good is Blizz at recovering deleted characters?

lol, so yea today I got a nice welcoming when I logged on. I saw that my level 70 was deleted and replaced with a character named "Diditforthelawls"

I got a laugh out of this. Since I have scammed accounts and deleted other characters I cant get mad from this.

So, I am in the process of getting my character recovered. How good is blizzard at recovering the character and items/money on that character?

Also, how can I find out how they got my account information?

About two or so weeks ago I accidentally clicked a keylogger (or thought it was) on the wow forums. So I ran spyware/virus scanners and nothing shown up.

And I've recently bought innerspace and installed bgbot and openbot

Could it be that the link I clicked was actually a keylogger and they didn't decide to still the account until now?

    should I wipe my comp?

They just deleted my character, they didn't try to change any of the info or anything. So yea hopefully you guys can help me out some.

    Thanks a bunch

    First thing's first...

Do an anti-virus scan and anti-spyware scan.

Second, go in-game and submit a ticket. They ALWAYS restore deleted characters over level 50, as long as it was deleted within a year (and sometimes they'll even recover ones from 2-3 years ago.)

I would first reformat your computer if it's not picking anything up for security purposes.
Then, You can create a ticket and get everything back.
Go to a friends house and change the account password and details.
    Good luck.

Well, from what I have heard the fail at giving items back, they give a few epix maybe, and the rest is replaced with w/e, I have no proof, but its what I have heard from other people.

I don't think there is an exact time frame, it could take maybe a day to a week, depends.

If items are deleted...it just depends on if they can verify that they are deleted.

Usually they restore most of your items, so it can never hurt to submit a ticket about it. But yeah, sometimes they just can't restore certain items for complicated reasons. IE, the hacker sharding something and pushing it so far into the economy through the AH that it would call for removing someone's gold, or something similar.

Most likely the mount, if deleted, will be restored. Honor too, I suppose.

Gold PROBABLY will but, as I said, there are some smart hackers who do an interesting job of making the gold unrestorable.

But I'd say most likely you'll get everything back, EXCEPT possibly for enchants and gems. Sometimes they don't restore enchants and/or gems.

When my druid was hacked(T6 geared) they restored everything. It took them 3 weeks though. But they should restore EVERYTHING(Professions...Skills...Bank Items...Sockets...Enchants...etc.)

I've had this happen before so I have a pretty good idea of what your in for.

If this is the first time your character has been deleted then it will be restored to where it was before with everything intact. However, if this isn't the first then you may be in for some work. They will restore your character with no money and all of the items you had sent to you in your mailbox with a C.O.D. There is also the problem of items that were 'of the Monkey', etc. Your not guaranteed to get it in the same format as you left it. However if it was your 70 then shame on you for wearing greens. ~_^

If you say that your account got hacked then your account is going to get closed and you're going to have to prove that the account is yours by faxing in a copy of your photo ID and filling in a few questions like what your email is (so they can send your new password to it), et cetera.

The easiest way to recover your character is to say that you left your little brother/cousin anything to that extent logged onto your character and deleted him randomly. They'll do a character rollback to the last time that your character logged on, no questions asked.
If you're not going to bother to click the +Rep button, don't say you will.

That's not always the case though. The only time I had to do this was when I recieved my final warning last week. Everytime I had a character deleted I just told them that I was hacked and got it under control. You may want to do as Poker said though and give another reason, like, 'I deleted the wrong character'. They're pretty understanding of human error and will usually take care of it right away. ^_^
