 Hey all... I know that there are still many people out there who figure fishing is a complete and total waste of time... and frankly it can be for the first few levels... buuut later on it can get very profitable, beneficial and fun. Since the release of 2.3.0 there are a few new items which can be fished so I thought I would share them with you all, aswell as a few changes which have been made to the fishing skill. Hopefully this will spark and interest in those of you who haven’t done any fishing yet, or perhaps rekindle the “Fishing Flame” in those of you who have let it die out. Most Headings are linked to Thottbot if you guys want a bit more info. Let’s get down to business!
Anyway... here is the list of things which have changed or have been added since 2.3.0....
1. Old Crafty - An off hand fish which has +5 Stamina and no level requirement, If you are lucky (make that very lucky) you might get it at a very low character level, which could be rather beneficial. He can be fished out of the water in the Valley of Honor in Ogrimmar.
2. Old Ironjaw - This is basically the Alliance version of Old Crafty. Has the same stats, looks the same when equipped, but has a crappier looking icon. He can be fished out of that pool of water in the Forlorn Cavern in Ironforge.
3. Crescent-Tail Skullfish - These new fish can be fished out of the water just outside Karazhan and the water inside Zul'aman. They can be cooked and drunk for a nifty +20 Spell Critical Strike Rating and Spirit for 30 mins. I use the word "drunk" as it get cooked into soup... which restore 7200mana. Quite nice soup if you ask me.
4. Bloodfin Catfish - This new fish can also be fished out of the waters outside Karazhan and the water inside Zul'aman. They can be cooked and eaten for a nice +20 Stamina and Spirit for 30 mins. The cooked version of the fish also restores 4320 health.
5. Capital Cities- You can now fish in Ironforge just like all other major cities. This was supposed to be implemented years ago... Looks like Blizzard finally got around to it.
6. Sunspring and Skysong Lakes - These two lakes in Nagrand have had their casting levels and "Your Fish Got Away" levels reduced. The requirements are now 395 to cast and 490 to avoid get away fish.
7. Terrokar High-Rise Lakes - Lakes Blackwind, Ere'Noru and Jorune in Terrokar Forest have also had their casting levels and "Your Fish Got Away" levels reduced. The requirements are now 405 to cast and 500 to avoid get away fish. Additionally, the famous (and infamous) Mr. Pinchy has become easier to catch.
8. Strange Engine Parts- Steam Pump Flotsam pools in Zangarmarsh now have an extreamly small chance to give you a "Strange Engine Part". These item start a quest which you can turn in for just over 2g. Alternitvley you can wait until lvl 70, and turn it in for just over 9g. It got a reference on it to a great show I used to watch called FireFly which is pretty cool. From what I have gathered, I think the Quest is only for Alliance, if any Hordie out there has completed this, let me know.
9) Weather-Beaten Journal - This has got to be one of the most awsome things Blizzard has done to fishing yet. This journal can be looted from crates all over Azeroth and Outlands, however you have a better chance of getting it in Outlands as most come from Curios Crates which come from Outlands. Once you have read through the journal, you will gain the ability to "Find Fish". Like many other gathering professions out there, this will allow you to track fish! Only shit thing about this is that the skill is not tracking Schools of Tasty Fish during the Fishing Extravaganza, and that the book is BOP. So no gold for the farmers out there, and hopefully the tastyfish issue is just a bugg which will be patched soon.
10) Apparently many crates/containers which can be caught via fishing have a higher chance to drop green (uncommon) items in Azeroth now. Not too sure about this, although it is a rumor which is circulating. Feel free to confirm if you can.
Hope this want too lengthy... and I hope you enjoyed it! I might add a few older items to this list sometime which are from before the patch such as Mr.Pinchy..
