10,000 vs 10$ its not much? do you realize that all of the re-sellers are somehow connected and they do buy gold for like 0,10-0,15 per K? Pay 1 dollar make 10 back... sounds ok to me. The problem is.. you either need ALOT of gold or you will have a problem, the mafia is HUGE =)!
i dont perfer to buy gold. never have, but game tokens r good for me =D
Profits are no where that high. They are around 15%-30% for WoW, but it depends on your suppliers and how fast you want the orders filled. Powerleveling can help, but there are a lot more customer complaints for leveling. Keys can be another good augmentation of services, but the average profit might be $5-$10 depending on the key. Accounts have to be sold quickly, otherwise an expansion can lower the sell price, and there is a LOT of fraud here.
Also, if you are just starting, you will need a website to sell... if you can read Chinese, you can get one for $500-$750. If not, you will be looking at around $3k-$7k USD with a unique design. Then there is the hosting and the customer support. Hosting, you can't just use a cheap plan for $20 a month, you will need a server for fast response time. Chinese customer support (little English) will cost you about $2000 a month or more for 24/7 support ($500 per person). If you just do your own, and limit to 12 hours a day, then the cost is your time and sanity.
Sure, you can make a cheap site, with a little know-how, cost you less then $100. But cheaper sites, get less customers. You can also just sell on marketplaces (like the one here and other sites), but you have to sell for lower prices, and there is more competition.
One last thing... many sites go out of business in their first year, by spending too much on advertising, but you need to, in order to get the business... it's a balancing issue. $1 per click, 1/10 customers buy...
There are a lot of factors to look into *shrug*
