Seven months after the release of this expansion, the first new raid and major content patch of Warlords of Draenor is being released tomorrow. However, it brings more than a new raid, and the current stance Blizzard is taking on some issues could make for an interesting patch.
After much community debate amongst WoW players, and apparent internal debating at Blizzard too, flying will be available in a mini-patch sometime after the release of 6.2 – and it requires a number of achievements to be unlocked to be able to fly. Thankfully for many players, these requirements are account-wide, meaning the achievements can be unlocked on different characters, and unlocking them all grants flying to all characters. Draenor Pathfinder requires collecting 100 treasures, exploring all of Draenor, completing the Loremaster achievement (H/A), completing the Apexis daily quests (H/A) and becoming at least Revered with the three new reputations in 6.2’s newly available zone – Tanaan (H/A).
Software such as Torpedoes’ Yeti Sonar can aid you in collecting treasures, and addons such as MozzFullWorldMap can help you in finding those spots you still need to discover. If you want to be among the first to fly, 6.2 is a great time to get started or finish up these achievements.
As a follow up to their original name release back in October, Blizzard is once again freeing up the names of any character who hasn’t logged on since the end of Wrath of the Lich King – the 7th of December, 2010. If you’ve got a name on an old character you want to save, you’ll have to log onto this character to keep it available before somebody else takes it. If you’d like to get a new name for your character, tomorrow will be the perfect opportunity to claim some, as there are many nice names on older characters that’ll be available once more for use.
The Second PvP season of this expansion will be coming with this patch. With PvP bots and CRs being quite popular on OwnedCore, it is important to remember that Blizzard has been more aggressive than usual in terms of banning bots in the past couple of months. Many Honorbuddy users were handed a six month suspension in May, and some ReBot and FireHack users were given a permanent ban in the last week. This could make relying on bots to play to a high rating a risky proposition this season. Take care when botting, especially in rated environments, and don’t forget - if you can’t afford to lose your account, don’t bot on it!
If you’re interested in getting into PvP botting this season, having a separate Battle.net and World of Warcraft account to bot on could save your main account from any potential penalties. In addition to the safety it brings to your main account, you can always transfer that character over to your main account if you earn any rewards at the end of the season. With the game being on sale at the moment, it could be a great time to begin to bot safely.
This patch is also bringing back from familiar faces from The Burning Crusade, considered by many to be the best expansion this game has had. Doom Lord Kazzak (now Supreme Lord Kazzak) has made his return in Tanaan Jungle as a World Boss once more, residing in the same location as he did in BC - the Throne of Kil'jaeden.
The construct who's overshadowing size still brings back fear from those entering Hellfire Peninsula for the first time, a spiritual successor to the Fel Reaver (now Iron Reaver) is making its appearance in the Hellfire Citadel raid.
Socrethar, the Eredar you slay at the end of a chain quest for the Scryers or Aldor in Netherstorm is also returning to Hellfire Citadel in a completely different manner in this alternate universe - the construct Socrethar the Eternal.
Of course, the last boss in Hellfire Citadel is none other than Archimonde himself, aid to Sargeras and the final boss of Mount Hyjal. Alongside the return of the Two Handed sword Cataclysm's Edge as Calamity's Edge, he will have the chance to drop some very rare cloth pieces that look like his armour - items that will surely be sought after by many casters throughout the world for their awesome factor.
Other additions such as Mythic Dungeons, which are harder versions of Heroic Dungeons that drop better loot on a weekly lockout and Timewalking, allowing you to queue for certain older dungeons from past expansions should be good news for people who enjoy PvE but aren't overly interested in any organised raiding.
New Battle Pets found throughout Tanaan Jungle, which can be obtained through various activities are not only something to look forward to if you're interested in Battle Pets, but with the release of any new pet, people are willing to pay large sums of gold to have it first. If you're looking at making gold, be sure to collect these pets and sell them in Trade Chat or on the Auction House. It's safe to assume that nearly all of these pets will be able to be collected through botting, but as I mentioned about PvP - there's always a ban risk associated with botting.
Pets such as the Corrupted Nest Guardian which drop in Hellfire Citadel will surely fetch an enviable sum to those who get it first, and the Nightmare Bell, Seaborne Spore, Periwinkle Calf and Zangar Spore will be easy gold if RNG is on your side.
So while this expansion has been hotly debated on a number of aspects, hopefully this patch will be enjoyable for everyone interested in playing, no matter what you do in the game!
