    PSA for undercutting

Because I am still very frustrated about events last night, I wanted to talk about how to undercut.

If someone (myself in this case) buys out the entire brilliant primordial gem market to reset the price from 23g to 75g, go with it. Undercut me by 1c, 10s, even 1g at that point, but WHY, in what logical world would you undercut all the way down to 35g with 20 gems? I dont understand why someone would purposefully lose out on 40g in profit while flattening the market.

I was able to hold brilliants to 70-75g for about 6 hours before he rampaged in and bots started undercutting his 35g faster than I could buyout and reset again, and this morning it is back to ~25g.

Please, mourn with me, for my high pop morons on my server.

    Moral:

Pay attention when you undercut, even if you use TSM. if you see a total of 3 of x gem on the AH for 250g each, depending on addon settings it could be over threshold and post at your fallback or normal price. Take advantage of the situation, make sure you dont slash yours and everyone elses profits because you are too lazy to check your post settings.

If got a bot on my server without getting banned (ty blizz for this shit) and I just bully him out of the profit zone just to get rid of the competition.
You could sell one glyph for something like 500g each with a huge amount of profit but will you continue the work if the profit goes to 3g each glyph?

After 1 month of undercutting and keeping the price low he gave up and now I can make the price for glyphs on my server ;-)

I don't play the game anymore but this is what made me quit when I did back shortly after CT.
People would always undercut me by sometimes hundreds of gold and sell at such a shitty profit that it didn't even make sense anymore and even though I always had enough to buy their shit, I eventually got fed up as more and more people started to undercut even more. I remember selling something I milked for at least 100 000 gold and used to sell like 300-500 gold and then one day realizing someone was selling his stacks for 40g and then someone else undercut to 20g and then it even went to 10g and stayed that way for weeks. At that point I realized playing the market with 12 year old kids wasn't working for me.

People do it literally because it frustrates others while also still making profit.

It's a legitimate strategy to muscle out competitors.

I sometimes buy stuff out just to vendor it... Get it off the market. Gold isn't a big deal to me. I make at least 7-8K a day so I'm set.

I was buying his out and reposting them, my addon tells me between the two gems i did it with, i resold 73 of his gems for a hefty profit, but it is more the principle of why do this to this extreme when it isnt necessary.

on the profit note, he was actually selling for a loss compared to what uncut primordials were at at the moment.

I just hope someone who undercuts heavily reads this and says, oh, yeah, that makes sense.

Or we can just read your post about not understanding the principles of supply and demand. Just because YOU want to manipulate the price doesn't mean anyone has to go along with it. Just because you want to sell it at a certain price doesn't mean that buyers are going to buy it at that.

Your logic is about as sound as the RIAA saying that they are losing billions in profits because people pirate. Something isn't sold until the gold is in your pocket.

all boils down to blizz designing a game for rejects and the entire genre following suit. mmorpgs are so mainstream now that the Bell Curve dictates that for every person who's common sense trigger goes off in a situation like this.. their are roughly 19 others who are so remedial they will list an item for less than it vendors for. Huge issue in ffxiv atm as well. I call people out on it all the time. Stupidity shouldnt go unpunished. Of course i proceed to buy their items and vendor them for a profit. /sigh

I used to purposely undercut by a huge amount. I eventually ruined the market for gems on that realm.
