Victim of account scam - help please.

    Hi,

Basically, I bought a WoW account off someone 2 weeks ago, everything has been fine up until yesterday when he managed to change the password to claim the account back.

I sent him the money via paypal. I have a photograph of a message saying he is selling the account to me with his driver’s licence and social insurance, which is signed and dated.

I'm more interested in getting the money back rather than the account. I've called paypal, who said they will look into his account and take action if necessary. But unfortunately they are not able to help with getting the money back, I think it's because I sent the money via Gift (sigh). I was told I would need to contact the card company or the police.

So my question is, what should I do?

Surely getting the police involved is a bad idea since buying/selling a WoW account is illegal anyway? What would Blizzard do?

Or should I just call the police as fraud is fraud?

Victim of account scam - help please.

You sent by gift, you're ****ed. Police wont do shit either, since it's not illegal. It's only against the EULA (Yea sure, its illegal to sell stuff of other people, but the guy can always say he only sold login details). Next time when buying an account dont use Gift, and make sure he mails you (IRL) a card saying the login details. This way you didnt buy virtual goods, and Paypal can do something.

I did use a credit card yes. Hmm... not sure if I should contact the bank, but I guess it won't cause any harm trying?

Your only option is to conatc the bank as paypal do not deal with virtual goods claims etc

There is always small claims court. Sue him for the payment plus court costs. You have his information, his 'contract' and the emails regarding the transfer and reaquisition. Most county court houses have a minimal fee to begin the process, like $25 or something and the maximum you can sue for is $2500 or so. No lawyers needed and the court summons may be enough to scare him to transfer the account back into your control.

I lied about getting a lawyer to him and I was told he had been out of town and his brother must have reset the password. He then gave me the new password / details etc. Either scare tactics worked or he's telling the truth.

    Thanks for advice anyway guys.
