Putting large gold amounts on low-level accounts

I've got a new account with low-level characters that I plan to start leveling. I was thinking about buying 5k or so in gold right now, not because I need it now, but because if I'm going to get banned for buying gold, I'd rather it happen early on before I've put in a lot of time on these characters.


I was wondering, however, whether WoW might notice the strange fact that a level 5 warrior has 5k in gold. Does anyone know whether Blizzard monitors the amount of gold in peoples' accounts to see whether it's consistent with their level?

Also, is there any precedent for WoW banning an actual person, instead of just his account. I've got a squeaky clean main account that is under the same credit card as my shady account. If they catch me buying gold on the shady account, is there any chance they would punish both of my accounts?

no, blizzard will never permanently ban a PERSON!
they will just ban your account, and sometimes they ban other accounts that you have :O

and it might be a tad suspicious; but a lot of people have more than 5k+ gold on a low level character..

My friend when he first started it was about 5 months before he started leveling a toon, in that time he had over 20k gold from the AH on his ONLY toon at the time which was level 1.

Ye well, he made it himself right? It didn't take him 1sec to retrieve the gold well, there are some nice sites (which I don't know) which send out the guild 500g by 500g or something, very secure.

not possible. if he hasn't played the game for long enough he can't possibly know all the prices and which auctions are worth to buy and so on.

5 Months is PLENTY of time to study the AH and what sells and doesn't and make 20k, Specially with addons.
