Anti Keylogger Guide

OK so just recently my friend got attacked by a keylogger and lost pretty much everything on his two 70 characters, and same thing happened to some of my guildies some months ago, so i decided to make a little guide on how to avoid this kind of evilness. Most of it is common sense but hope you will find something useful.

Avoiding a Keylogger

BROWSE PORN ON A PORN SITE. Not on official WoW forums. I see these posts several times a day:
OH and like nixob said porn site are also overloaded with vile viruses, so if porn is absolutely neccesary why dont you just rent it at the local gasstation just to be safe

Those are usualy keyloggers. And yes Im aware that some of them are level 70, but those are scammed and infected accounts.

All together try to use your common sense when you are browsing WoW forums, Wowinsider comments, and some unknown WoW blogs.

I recommed Anti Virus software too, but who doesn't now a days?



Got a keylogger? What to do?

Are you already infected? Or do you suspect having a keylogger? Fear not, most keyloggers are easy to remove if you know what you're doing. Then again, few keyloggers are a biatch to remove.

Most keyloggers are well hidden, and if you manage to find them, they wont just be deletable right away.

First thing: Run a virus scan (if possible). If it doesnt find anything, try setting maximizing the scan carefullnes to max if you're anti virus have this option. If you know where the keylogger is located, try directing your anti virus to that directory. If it manages to find it, try to delete it trough the anit virus application.

If you succed then try looking in the folder again and see if anything suspicious is still there. Turn on "Show hidden folders and files".

If you don't succed or if some files still are there then you have to go manualy. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to make Joblist appear. Click on the Processes tab and make the window big so you can read the full description. Now read ALL processes trough. Everyting you dont know what is: GOOGLE IT! If it turns out that you've just found a keylogger procces then right click it and press the first option (my Windows is Danish so dont know what it is called in English) "Open Location". When you have located the location then higlight all the evil suspicious files, stop the process and delete the files.

If not: Im sorry this has always worked for me, don't know what to do then :'(
You could try System Restore and take it at least some days back.



Being paranoid? Still suspecting keyloggers, but can't resist playing?

If you really have to play but suspect a keylogger my best advice is: DONT PLAY!

If you still have to then my other advice is: Frankly dont play.

No seriously if you have to play while you suspect a keylogger try this:

Your password are ilovek3yl0ggerz

write every other letter: ioe3lgez

Then press between each letter and insert the remaining ones. Hope you understand

Porn sites are some of the most virus ridden sites out there, if you must use a porn site browse it through a secure browser like google chrome.

Useful guide for the unaware though.
