WoW Exploration post patch 4.0.3a
Due to the world being torn asunder, our beloved Exploration forum here will be flooded this week with new threads. People showing off the 'new look' of our old favorite spots, new ways to get into them, and older things that no longer work. Above Undercity, Underneath Stormwind, Peacebloom River, Green Smoke, Old Ironforge & the IF Airport, Ortell's Hideout, etc... there are certain spots that are foreign to the average player, but the MMOwned explorer knows them all too well by name...
The purpose of this thread here is to start a discussion about what has changed and what remains the same as of 4.0.3a with the "usual haunts" for WoW explorers... this way we can perhaps prevent some of the double-posting, and maybe even save some exploration time with our shared experiences.
Ashzara Endless Strip - The endless strip of land on the edge of the water in Ashzara has been removed. Strangely enough, the land strip still appears on my mini-map, but the actual land is gone. RIP Endless Strip.
Peacebloom River - EDIT: The fishing node has been hotfixed and is now just a regular fishing node. The "cut off water" at the end of the river, however, now ends at finished mountains.
Newman's Landing - This still exists. You have to swim north of Stormwind and past the water-filled destruction from Deathwing... it is now located off the coast of Dun Morogh. The three goblin NPCs that used to be there a long time ago have returned.
Ironforge Airport - I went to IF Airport the old way, via slowfall from the IF graveyard... but discovered it was filled with angry dwarven NPCs! Heading to the old 'non-usable' flight point at the end of the landing strip, I discovered a plane that I could right-click on and jump in...and it flew me to Gol'Bolar Quarry. I can only assume that this is the way to get "back" to Gol'Bolar from what must be a new quest that sends you to the IF Airport. It appears this is now open to the public.
Old Ironforge - Still closed off completely, but still exists and is accessible with glitches as of 4.0.3a
Underneath Stormwind - I tried falling through the ledge above the torch near the AH, but the ledge is now solid. I tried mount-glitching through the canals at the front entrance, but they 'squared' them off. I tried mount-glitching through doorways, but they've all been widened. Overhanging ledges have been squared off as well, so no mounting through those. I tried running over the mountains from Dun Morogh... but Deathwing destroyed that mountain path. The HUGE expanse of land that was north of Stormwind is now covered in water. Immediately north of SW is now a graveyard that is part of the city. Conclusion - RIP Underneath Stormwind.
"Bengal Tiger Cave" - The infamous STV Waterfall and 'Tiger cave' are still hidden in the mountains of STV. The empty lake in front of the waterfall has been filled in. The path next to the waterfall still leads to the cave, and the cave is still empty...
House above Stormwind Falls - The house above Stormwind Falls in Elwynn Forest does not in fact belong to Nat Pagle. A Gnome now resides there, tending to a flock of sheep. It still exists during patch 4.0.3a.
Ortell's Hideout (Dun Morogh) - The version of Ortell's Hideout previously in Dun Morogh has been removed. It is now called "The Mountain Den" and does not zone you into Silithus. (See Classicclean's post, copied below) RIP Ortell's Hideout.
Karazhan Crypt - The Karazhan Crypt area below the tower in Deadwind Pass still exists as of patch 4.0.3a (see Dataanti's post below).
Silithus Tauren Farm & Cave - The Tauren Farm is gone as of this patch, apparently it sunk into the ocean. The cave nearby is still there. (See Shayden85's thread, linked below) RIP Silithus Tauren Farm
Above the Undercity (Ruins of Lordaeron) - The area above Undercity has been re-drawn to represent the proper Ruins of Lordaeron. You can no longer drop into the Undercity via the holes that used to be up here. See video below.
Please, start some discussion here... share your experiences with the new patch! Sorry for the TLDR post, but I am a verbose person and I type fast.![]()
