[Cataclysm] Karazhan To Return

I decided to visit Karazhan in Deadwind Pass on The Cataclysm Alpha and it appears as if Karazhan received a whole new room, and on the top of the tower there is a flight path and a new instance portal (that you will need to use a flying mount to get to??)

If you go to the new big dome next to the Karazhan tower you enter a new zone?* called, "Morgan's plot"

*need confirmation that "Morgan's plot" isn't in the game already.

EDIT: Just noticed that The Karazhan Crypts instance portal has been moved to farther down... (Signaling a possible entrance for a instance in Cataclysm)


It would appear that there will be 3 (Three) new additions to Karazhan in Cataclysm! Yay!

Well The Maffyx, the entire Karazhan tower has been redone. That has to mean something!

Well i know that there was a flight path back type area in BC, but it was just never opened or used. But I do not know about any portal connecting to there, or if "Morgan's plot" existed.
I REALLY hope there is a new addition, but I'm not so sure the flight path is new.
One important note, though, is that if that area does exist on current retail servers, they didn't REMOVE the flight path/portal in the current alpha build. That seems like it would be an important thing to take off if it wasn't going to be used and we can just fly up there.

Hopefully someone with a private server with 3.3.3 can check to see what's up there NOW.


Looking at the pictures again, its obvious they changed several parts about the outside of Kara. So that flight path and portal are obviously intentional. This is pretty exciting to me. I guess someone decided to move into Kara while we were out fighting the lich king!

Haha, yes, that would be great. As you can see, the polygon count on the tiles are MUCH higher, and damage to the backside is a bit greater too. Thanks for the info on the flight paths though!

Uh, this isn't new.

The Gryphons and Instance portal have always been there. Seriously, just make a shaman and Far Sight at the top of the tower on a live server. The only difference is that in Cata, with a flying mount, you'll be able to go up there, so presumably this will be changed. Also, Morgan's Plot is just the name of the graveyard on the minimap.

actually, yes it was there in bc but it was locked with a gate as it is today, apparently in cata the gate has been removed thus leading to maybe a new part of kara.

The gate is most likely still there, it's not going to show up in the sandbox as it's user-interactible, and those doodads (highlight on mouseover, etc etc) aren't loaded in a sandbox environment.

Weird, that portal is realy long time there... but it explane's instance cuz on Cata there is FLYEVERYWHERE! so Blizzard had Cataclysm plans b4 WOTLK come out?

When TBC was initially in the process of being made, the intent was to have a flightpath that would take you to the top as an easy back-door to get higher up.

This didn't work properly, so they scrapped it altogether and made the back door that exists now. But they never took out the flight path or the portal.

The crypt was also changed, albeit I think slightly more recently.

With the return of Onyxia, Nefarian, C'Thun, and possibly even Hakkar (the datamined Gurubashi stuff)...I think Kara will sit out TBC. Every story to be told in it has already been told, really. What's the crypt going to hold? Medivh's dead dog? No lore significance.

We don't know anything about it except for what we can see in it. There's still story to be written.

The book (the last guardian) = the lore says that karazhan has a mirrored version of the tower which lead to rumors saying that karazhan will return with the mirrored version.
