Repairs are registered server side. The op is misinformed.

You can however, get a quest item called the "Skull of Impending Doom" and do this. The item puts a NASTY debuff on you that'll definately kill you. Not to mention its a weapon so you can switch out to it in mid combat if you feel your going to wipe so that you dont have to waste one of your precious Trinket Slots. Pretty nifty. Have fun with it.

Sure you didnt get killed by either a horde or alliance? Cuz then you wont lose durability

you can indeed alt+f4 and hope the game discs you before the mob your fighting (in raid) aggroes you, due to the fact that your offline (NOT THERE!) the mob / boss will reset.
