AFK From BGs Without Deserter

With the most recent patch changes they added deserter to arenas. This helped prevent a few exploits. The obvious way around this is to get in combat before leaving the arena (allowing you to still tank rating, etc.) as this was stated in the patch notes.

Now the real exploit comes in how this affects battlegrounds. You can currently /afk out of a BG while in combat (haven't tested it with getting in combat then leaving combat but I feel like this should work as well) and not get the deserter debuff. This is a great way to leave losing BGs to get in a better one.

Maybe it has to do with queuing specifically? I was doing the CTA (temple) not randoms.

Logged back in on an alt just to ensure that I'm not crazy... was able to successfully afk out again.

I'm 99% sure you're not getting any deserter buff in US. Tryed a lot and no debuff ever since last hotfix.

Edit: I'm talking about regular specific bgs (not random queues).

Worked somehow later today, maybe you have to stay a few minutes in the bg before leaving.

No there was a bug report on EU about leaving before a bg started and not getting deserter. I couldn't reproduce that, but I didn't
get the debuff leaving a bg halfway through earlier today.

Giving the massive reduction in debuff time I'm not entirely sure that it matters that much. 90% of the time you know your group
is doomed based on a casual assessment of the number of healers and their gear. Whether its 5 mins or zero hardly matters,
there's going to be a lot of experienced players quitting.

(Btw sounds like a really desperate move by Blizzard. I'm beginning to wonder if the game isn't finally falling apart.)

Not exactly... I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that bgs are still intended to have 15 minute deserter debuffs...

But maybe not. The patch notes agree with what you say but I thought I saw a tweet saying the opposite. Who knows.

I noticed this happened twice in a row for me queing for WSG CTA on US servers. Both times I was in the graveyard and left; on my third replication, it did not work and I got the debuff.

Yeah, just seems to be totally random.

this worked for me. I had to be dead first and waiting on res then afk out. no debuff
