    Farming Savage Leather

In the outer ring of Deepholm, between the 9 o'clock and 12 o'clock areas, there are large giants killing groups of mobs running around. Specific areas are anywhere between 34,53 and 32,42. Above these areas are large groups of bats, usually 10 or more. These bats have 5,368 hitpoints each. There are anywhere between 3 and 5 groups of bats flying around at one time. Range pull these, aoe them down, and skin. They always give a Savage Leather (whole ones, no scraps), and sometimes a Bloated Stomach with random Volatiles in them. The bats always stay up, when you kill one or two, more spawn, just loot, fly around, and find the next.

Below is a screenshot of my map. I have added points where I pull the bats. Going from top to bottom is 34.2, 44.3; 35.8, 46.3; 33.0, 49.6 (2 groups intersect paths from this spot - pull em both); 32.7, 53.5; and 29.7, 53.7 (2 groups from this spot as well.) While you can pull these groups from anywhere, once you have been out there, you find the problem lies with the patrolling groups of ground mobs. While these won't kill you, they aren't skinnable and can be very annoying. These spots are from little pedestals in the area that do not contain any adjacent mobs or in any patrolling mobs' paths. One of the points is, but it's the first spot you can pull 2 groups from and not move. Risk
Some may say this is more of a guide, and I have posted in guides, but the more I think about it, I do not think, based on Blizzard's behavior over the last few years, that their intent was to create a group of mobs with only 5khp each, that yields 8-10 savage leather every time. It would be like creating one single, normal-hp-for-that-area mob that you can bug out and skin 8-10 times.

They do, but rarely, like any other mob. I have 14 in my skinning bag right now I've gotten off of them in the last couple days of nonstop farming.

    nice find +rep

for those without a deepholm capable character, you can go to Vash'jir and not far from the starting area is a sunken ship surrounded by those huge snakes (look up Akasha). I was able to pull 8-10 at a time with my 80 druid (feral) and mangle them down (berserking when it's up of course, or using swipe/maul) pretty easily. Fair amount of scraps but also whole leathers, deepsea scales, stomachs containing volatiles, and a few pristine hides (rare). Also not a terribly way to level on the side. The best part is if there are still lowbies around killing stuff and not skinning, you can usually poach theirs as long as they're looting.

edit: i should note that these snakes have standard HP for their level, and give standard xp as well.

Not sure this should stay here, this is not an exploit and we shouldn't get Blizzard to hotfix it because they find it in this very forum.

So far my Survival Hunter went from 80-82 killing the bats and the group of Jaspertip Swarmers, as well as tagging the Giants and the mobs he fights. He's a Skinner/Engineer using Potion of Treasure Finding thus :

    - Can track Humanoids/Beasts/Giants
    - Skins the bats
    - Can Multi-Shot/Trap Launch, and deal sick AoE ranged damage with Serpent Spread.
    - Can Feign Death come around trouble.
    - Finds Volatile Air while skinning
    - Finds Tiny Treasure Chests which contain anywhere between a measly 4G cash to 15 Embersilk Cloth or some Volatiles. About 20 of these Chests an hour.
    - Finds greens and gets them disenchanted for roughly 40-100G each.
    - Gets about 250G worth of vendor trash per hour
    - Has a Moll-E to take care of mailing every single find. Trash included to avoid moving.

Since Cata came out, I've leveled slowly but made over 200k out of this very one spot.

this spot is ridiculous, but it'd be awesome if we could keep it on the down-low; i'm positive none of us want this hotfixed

What is there to hotfix, really ? 10 stacks of Leather per hour is NOT abusive.

I searched and read that post, apparently better than you did.

It gives a map pointing to the Pale Roost, not the area I am speaking of. It did not give exact coordinates of where the best areas are to skin. Just because it said, "Deepholm", "bat", and "leather" in the post, I would not call them equivalents. In fact, the only details at all that are given is "There are alot of those Bat Packs."

    Go read both posts again.

Edit: Now that I've thought about it some, I wanted to let you know I'm not trying to come off as brash. I just see "repost" spam on a vast majority of posts that aren't, and it got me a little perturbed when my own post started getting plagued with the same.

ya, it's a week late on the response, but it specifically mentions the bats (packs of them in fact), and has a picture of them. Yes, the other guy providing that information quite clearly made this a repost.

Also, hotfixed so bats don't provide leather now as the guy above me said.

Yea, I saw the nerf. Love having a tradeskill which takes twice as long to get results as any other prof. Put that on top of needing 50 leather for a single pattern that probably takes several pristine hides which will never drop and its fail.
