4.0.3 Hunter pets live forever- Bug

This is something I've noticed since 4.0.3 in reaction to Blizzard trying to fix the problem where hunter pets are summoned with roughly 20% of their total health randomly.

Basically, while your pet is fighting, every 5-10 seconds, it will heal itself up to about 80% of its total health for no reason. This heal is not recorded in the combat log and it doesn't appear as green text over the pet.
As the video shows, while my pet is on passive, the heals don't happen, and after the fight with Anzu, the worm doesn't recover anymore either.

This has been unbelievably useful for soloing various things.

    Have fun, hunters

EDIT: One important detail, at no point during filming did I use mend pet OR the spirit beast's heal. So don't think that happened.

As far as I've seen, nothing.

There are many facets that could make this work or not work, and it would take some time to test them all.

Does it work with MM or SV? Or just BM?
    Is it only at 80?
    Is it only exotic pets?
Does your pet have to cast an ability or just attack? Is the heal anytime an ability is cast or anytime anything is cast?
Is it an actual heal or is it indeed related to their "fix" of pet summoning causing a pet to start with 20% health?
Can the heal only happen once per X seconds?

Sadly, I didn't have the time to stay on and find out, but I'm no longer at my desktop to test more.

But to answer your question, I did nothing special at all. It's just something I've noticed while soloing since 4.0.3

I'll try answering a few questions since my main is a Hunter.

    1. This bug happens with all specs. Once you summon a pet, doesnt matter if its exotic or whatever it will start with 20% of its total health.
    2. No its not only at 80. Soon as you can get a pet, and call it in you can do this.
    3. Read #1
    4. I'm not sure if i totally understand this question but; You can send your pet to attack at any time once it is summoned with 20% health and after it is summoned you have to wait a short while for it to go back to max health. (Im not sure how long you have to wait) And this 'Heal' is not an ability or spell.
    5. I think its related to "fix" the health of your pet, to get it back to 100%
    6. Not totally sure, im going to have to login and check.

    Hopefully this helped the OP.

    P.S
+Rep to Janube for an awesome exploit

With the coming of 4.0.3, I've never seen any of my summoned pets appear at 20% health anymore, so as far as I know, they DID fix the problem, causing this new fun bug in some way.

I just have no clue what part of the fix could have caused this.

I believe this bug is caused by your pet scaling to your stamina after it is summoned. The lower HP pool you see is most likely your pets HP before applying your stamina to his health, then after a second or two the game calculates all your stats into the equation..it would be kinda unfair if your pet only started at like 5k hp everytime you summon him, so the game heals it for you.

I just tested my method and confirmed it.
Call your pet, and get him into combat ASAP before the stamina scaling starts.

It's as easy as that. If you do this, your pet will keep getting healed.

Not sure if you watched the video, Aki, but the heal happens constantly throughout a fight without any summoning or dismissing.
Most of the fights in the video I did were after the pet had been out for several minutes as well.

Particularly in Sethekk Halls, where I used the spirit beast from the beginning and it healed against every batch of enemies on its own.

Is that what you were trying to say? Or did I miss your point?

I didn't get to extensively test this, but I dueled a friend, called my pet, got him into combat, and then my pet was being constantly healed as my friend tried to kill him.

You sure this isn't related to the Bloodthirsty talent you can spec your pets into? I tried to test this with a few different pets, none of them healed on their own and ended up dying.

Confirmed this with a Cunning pet.. was healing itself every few seconds for 30% of its health.

    This is quite amusing

Bloodthirsty heals for 5% when it's activated and is not a part of the tenacity tree, which I was using with the worm.

But finding someone unable to do this should be good for testing, shouldn't it?
What spec, level, pets, and pet trees were you using?

Confirmed working, Live AND PTR. It's all chance, though.

Attempt 1; Level 77 Silithid no talents, successfully defeated Jotun the Curse Bearer in Dragonblight (80 elite, 126k hp) without any heals or interaction from me.
Attempt 2; Level 80 Core Hound properly specced for raiding, successfully defeated Thyrim in Zul'Drak (80 elite, 635k hp), no interaction or heals from anyone.
Attempt 3; Level 80 Turtle, properly specced for soloing, defeated in under a few seconds on ICC trash "The Damned".
Attempt 4; Level 80 Core Hound properly specced for raiding, successfully defeated all trash up to Marrowgar alone (WHAT)
Attempt 5; Level 80 Core Hound properly specced for raiding, killed by Marrowgar after 10 minutes. Dunno if berserk, but he got wrecked.
Attempt 6; Level 80 Silithid specced for pvp, nearly solos Marrowgar for 10 minutes as well, but gets wrecked and I get bone storm'd
Attempt 7; Same Silithid, solos Patchwerk and room at once. Dunno how, but it did survive. I did one arcane shot for credit.
Attempt 8; Same Core Hound, dies on Grobbulus after three hits.
Attempt 9; Same Core Hound, almost kills Grobbulus but dies due to standing in about 8 AoE's and taking hits at the same time.
Attempt 10; Same Turtle, kills Grobbulus just before Enrage timer. Also using Move To to avoid AoE.

I was having limited success with my current pets, and they all had Bloodthirsty, either 2/2 or 1/2. I abandoned one and tamed a Wind Serpent inside Sethekk Halls - specced him up, then he proceeded to solo the rest of the instance, with myself only using an arcane shot for credit on bosses. I'll test some more, but it seems that this bug does not happen while specced into Bloodthirsty.

EDIT: There's a thread going on over at Petopia already. http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6395

All pets I tried this with that didn't work did have the 2/2 Bloodthirsty, so NOT having that talent seems to allow the bug or be a direct cause of it, pretty cool.
