[Alterac Valley] Teleport to Opposing Faction's Base @ Beginning of Match

This is pretty far out there but earlier today I encountered a paladin in Alterac Valley who instantly teleported to the opposing faction's base 10 seconds into the game. He proceeded to tell me exactly how...

Step 1: Have Rune of Recall - Item - World of Warcraft from before the Alterac Valley revamp.

    Step 2: Faction change.

Step 3: Teleport to opposite faction's base.

I do accept that it's pretty far fetched that someone would still have this sitting around but evidently someone did.

Rune of Recall only has 20 charges, wouldn't this work with the Stormpike/Frostwolf Trinkets?... Someone should try this

I believe you are given the appropriate faction's trinket. It just seems as though the Rune of Recall, as old as it is - escaped the normal faction transfer safeguards.

On a related note, I hear that heirloom PvP trinkets get switched properly but revert back to their original form/faction when mailed. This suggests that no items are actually "converted" but that a buff is applied to your character that causes them to behave as if they are converted.

and that this buf is broken by mailing the item...

or, does the buff get neutralized by the item being out of your backpack, or bank?

In that case, selling it to a vendor then buying it back might reset.
Alternatively, delete it and ask a GM to restore the item, this isn't tricking the gm at all, they do this often.

When you switch, does your hearthstone stay where you set it last?
e.g. Teleport straight into Orgrimmar as Alliance

Could you do this with some of the best faction specific trinkets/weapons in the game to get two of them?
reset the buff on your horde one, after switching to Alliance then obtaining the alliance version.

No, they reset your hearthstone to your new faction's capital.

I.E. I change from Human to an Orc my hearth would be set to Orgrimmar.
