Earthshield trick

I found today that i could be in my resto spec and earthshield the tank , then when i duel speced to elemental he kept the earthshield .

That happened in my group when I was running Ramparts on an alt a week ago. The shaman went resto for a pull as our healer had disconnected, and when she went back elemental, the tank kept the shield. When I tried that (enhance to resto, dropped the shield, back to enhance) on myself, it didn't work.

This has been like this since 3.0 hit I think. Been using it on Vezax, put ES on tank and going ele, has always stayed on without any problems.
