The purpose of this thread is to clear up some myths you read about on some of these posts.
Rumor #1:
1000 Player Cap
When people say their realm is accessable to 1000 players, this is unlikely true. As you can set this in the ascent-world configuration file, doesn't nessicerily mean that your realm can support it. You need Bandwidth and other factors to support these 1000 players.
Rumor #2:
"Friendly Staff"
While this often is not a myth, most of the time it is. Most of the time GMs for that server are friends of the admin (bad), and are likely curropt (give things to players). Most of them don't know any of the GM commands. Likely if they aresaying this they have nothing else to say about their realm.
Rumor #3:
"No Lag"
This is very easy to clarify. Most people who say "No lag" and DO NOT have a dedicated host (paid hosting) have little players (2-3) on their realms and cannot say this until they average ~100 players at a time.
Rumor #4:
"Custom Content"
Only trust if there are screenshots. Mosst of this "custom content" can be found on plenty of servers, as it is taken from Mmowned Emulator Disscussion forum section, available for the world to download.
Rumor #5:
Level Cap 255 or a number above 80
Well, you can set the level cap to 255, but this really means nothing. Ascent starts to loose stableness and crash more if its over 80. Its also likely that they don't have alot of gear for inbetween levels. Ultimately, these servers fail so do not join them.
Rumor #6:
All GM Server
There are two myths about this. One is that they have to set it in database first. This is a slow, nervewraking process and definatly don't join servers with this. Second, most Admins don't take proper actions by restricting commands they can use. This can result in a server being easily hacked or crashed.
Rumor #7:
Custom Classes
A huge myth. While it can be scripted in C++, 99.9% of servers saying this are lying because they just change your displayid. This makes your character really buggy and also affects ascent.exe terribly.
I will add more when I think of some more
