No up to date servers?

Hey guys, i was just making a post to ask why there is no up to date servers with the current patch?

Have blizzard somehow made it impossible to create a private server on the latest patch or something?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, maybe i just haven't looked hard enough but from what i've seen so far, i've only seen private servers go as far as Cataclysm ?

I'm no coder, so I can't tell you much on that side of things. However, what I do know is that it is very hard to get... stuff (idk, maybe offsets or whatever stuff coders use) from the current expansion. Typically, you won't see a lot of private servers on the current expansion because it's a lot of work, and there's always the risk of getting sued by blizzard for "unfair competition", especially since it's the current expansion.

People are working on it, but the blizzard devs are doing a good job slowing the emulator developers down.

Are the chances of being sued quite high for running private servers these days?
Also how would blizzard be able to track it back to you if say you were hosting a server on an offshore box or something...?

By the way i'm not asking these questions because i wish to start a server i'm just curious

They are very, very low. I think only a couple server owners have been sued ever, and that was because they made stupendous amounts of money from doing so.
Blizzard can probably track almost anything provided they want to, although the time/money for them to do so would be pointless.

They've never indirectly stated it, but they don't really care about private servers so long as the private servers aren't stealing a lot of their business.

Aslong as the Server isn't an direct ripoff with uppgrades and you have to pay gametime for it - I don't think blizzard will care until that happens.

It is more so that there are no groups of developers working on the latest patches. They focus on older patches or go solo and cannot get enough work done. It's not really harder, just no decent developers or groups working on it. Teenagers cannot program that good normally, which is no surprise.

I'd settle for a Sandbox that allows for PTR builds. I assume that the guys at mmo-champ have such a sandbox, seeing as they always seem to have a preview of the new content that is still inaccessible to players.

It is much more likely that they just wrote a tool to render those file formats, as they really well documented.

I hate that forum because they are hypocrites. If you even talk about anything that breaks the WoW ToS they will ban you, yet they break it by extracting the game files and using them out of WoW.

A sandbox is relatively easy to create, especially as the memory editing section often dumps the latest offsets, but there is no real demand for it (not significant enough for people to go out of their way to write one).
