    New to this scene, adding or modifying items as a client?

    i've been doing some research into all this wow hacking insanity as part of a new classic 1.12 server. It's a decent place, aside from one glaring fact;
    the GMs basically list off boss exploits to their resident guilds, giving them a huge progression advantage and leaving everyone else in the dust. this is just dumb.

    so i figured, why not? fight fire with fire

    as a regular player on the server, and not a GM or admin or anything, is there anything i can do to give me specific items or modify the stats on items? I keep seeing LUA scripts mentioned, but never really given a context

    basically i just want to give myself a mindtap talisman or two, or just go balls-to-the-walls and put +44 mana-per-five on an item of mine

    The reason i ask is that a person i know claimed to be able to give himself the infamous "GM hat" which basically does a /kill when you click on something and use it (deals several million damage), however he isn't an admin or GM in any way, so how did he mange to do it?

    Lua scripts and such are server-side scripts that can be used to do many different things.

    You are client side and have no access to the server, so you need to resort to exploiting/hacking.

    I have no knowledge really in the area whatsoever, however I can give you the general concepts...

    People can use WPE filters to manually manipulate the packets being sent to the server and the different memory addresses, to achieve desired effects.

    Someone could cast spell 11, but tell the server that it is spell 5 upon being cast, which would make the player cast spell 5 even if he doesn't have the spell and didn't click that spell. Almost all servers now have this exploit fixed, as the server checks what spell you cast as well, so you don't just tell them.

    As you're playing a 1.x server, a lot of fundamental exploits that were fixed in newer revisions I guess might still work. It will mostly be trial and error, and lots of googleing for other guides.

    hrm, i'll have to ask my friend how he managed to get stuff like the GM hat, when he doesn't actually know any GMs
