Custom Launcher?

Hey. Maybe I'm just being paranoid or something, but i know how easy it is to make rats/stealers/etc. undetectable by antiviruses, but aren't some of those custom launchers dodgy? i've been out of the private server scene for a while, and never needed to d/l those. Can i feel safe using them?

You should never feel safe about anything you download on the internet, and the ease of creating an undetectable trojan depends entirely on how much money/time the person is willing to spend.

If you are worried that something might be infected, scan it with an antivirus, or use something like VirusTotal - Free Online Virus, Malware and URL Scanner to do the scanning for you (on all Antivirus software).

I have scanned and it results in 0 viruses, but i know how to make fully undetectable viruses as well so that's not helping.
The server i want to join is quite popular (CataWoW Instant 85 Funserver - Cataclysm Private Server | Cataclysm 4.1.0/4.0.6 Server), maybe that's enough to feel safe?

All cataclysm servers require a custom launcher (or a patcher for the client).There is no real solution - it's like trying to tell a virus apart from a legitimate file when downloading software. Look at forums, are they active? If they are it's likely the server is popular and many other people use it without issues.In this case I would say it is safe, but don't count on my word.

Well the last update on the launcher was 28 of april - and the forums seem fairly active. Anybody familiar with that site?

CataWoW.exe is safe. I just took a look, it's a modified wow.exe (the default one) to basically disable the channel that communicates with Blizzards servers.
