    [Ports] Server on hosted VPS

    Hey guys,

I'm new here and to wow servers so please go easy. Right now I just purchased a VPS from a web hosting company and got my own domain. I wanted to start a wow server where my friends and I could play on and later on - months later - I could take online when I'm familiar with the controls and everything I need to know.

I tried doing the same thing I did on my home computer - using an Arcemu repack but nothing worked. The MySQL didn't load, apache didn't load, logon didn't load - nothing worked. I asked somewhere else and after hours one person said - change the configs to your external IP and forward ports... which was gibberish to me. I do not understand this like you guys do.

Could someone please forward me to a tutorial with which programs i need or better yet explain to me how I could go ahead doing this? Doesn't matter if its Arcemu or Mangos or hatever as long as there are instructions on how to use it.
And sorry about not tagging - don't know how to tag it now, cant edit thread name.

    I would appreciate this alot!
    twocents+Rep+Reptwocents

PS: Its a windows server and I have remote access

First of all, you dont "need" any programs honestly. You basically have two options:

    -Use a repack
    -Compile yourself

If you choose the first option, great, just go to the releases section of this forum and download a repack that looks good to you. They should come with information on what to do, but its all self explanitory. Editing the configs isn't hard either, the only one you need to edit is "realms.conf" and open this in notepad, scroll down to the bottom where it says Realm Name, under that it will have 127.0.0.1, change this to the external IP of your VPS.

If you choose to compile, there are numerous guides in the guides section on what you need to go. So just follow them and it will be clear what you need to do, most of them explain exactly what to do.

    Thanks for the reply.

I installed ArcEmu repack 9.0 and I changed the realms.cfg to my server IP.
Then I tried to run MySQL and got this mssg:

''Please dont close Window while MySQL is running
    MySQL is trying to start
    Please wait ...
MySQL is starting with mysql\bin\my.cnf (console)
Can't start server: Bind on TCP/IP port: Invalid argument
100426 8:02:36 [ERROR] Do you already have another mysqld server running on por
    t: 3306 ?
    100426 8:02:36 [ERROR] Aborting

    100426 8:02:36 [Note] mysql\bin\mysqld: Shutdown complete

    MySQL could not be started
Press any key to continue . . .''

And apache was more of the same ....

''An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions. :make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80
...blah blah blah Apache could not be started sucka''

well not those words exactly but yeah .. you get the idea.
    help

EDIT: I got mysql to work. there was another instance already running so I shut that down and it worked.
Now I can't seem to get IIS to stop and let apache use the port.
Its IIS +7 so httpcfg isn't working ... Im actually a little proud at how much I learned in a few hours... lol

Is it possible a MYSQL server is already tunning on your VPS? If not, ensure your firewall on the VPS is off. If it still persists after this then open up task manager, and make sure are no processes with the name "mysql" within it, if tere is make sure to end it. Quite possible this could be the reason.

    wow thanks for everything Kiev.
I got it to work. And the appache - I don't know what I idd though lol .... played with some stuff and it worked.
Now I can't seem to access the server.
Im using the Mangos 3.3.3 repack and changed 127.0.0.1 to my IP in 2 confg files and in the realmslist database like the readme said. I then changed my realmslist file to my IP and it wouldnt connect. Kept getting login server is down

Change the ip in the configs back too what it was. Before you do this is there any errors in the exe files? Keep the IP in the database as it is

Hmm.. what part of your realmlist are you editing? As in, what directory?

And yes, it will always be able to connect to battle.net if you use your email, that why you need to login with just the account name and not the email

This is what I did step by step:

    1. Re-installed Mangos 3.3.3 repack that I found on this website
    2. Ran MySQL and APACHE
    3. Ran Realmd and Mangosd
    4. Signed into HiediSQL and changed the realmlist database to my IP instead of 127.0.0.1
    5. Create account
    6. Restarted everything
    7. Changed my realmlist in Crograms/wow/data/enUS to read set realmlist xxx.xxx.xxx.xx [My IP]
    8. Sign in with created account
    9. Cry a bit and then post here

    Still nothing :'(
I'm hoping at this point that its the repack and not the setup
I'm at a dead end so I'm going to try an ArcEmu 3.3.2 repack that I know works for sure on my home computer
    Wish me luck!!
