[Ports] Need help forwarding

Hey all! I recently started making a private server (not sure if I'm allowed to post name of it) but I really want to publish it. I have seen some YouTube tutorials that say osemthing about forwarding ports, I have done every step except that, if I get wired internet instead of a router do I need to still forward the ports? someone help me! Ican't forward the ports (for personal reasons) and I will +Rep any one who can help me!
