    Total beginner totally lost..

All I can stay is: what the hell. I haven't found a single guide -- of the dozens around here -- that are straightforward for beginners. Every single one makes tons of assumptions that I know this or that. Here I am wondering what the hell the difference is between "Acent", "Mangos", "Aspire" and all such crap.

Bearing with my ignorance, I'm wondering if anyone can enlighten me as to how to just set up a server. I want something working with live 3.0.3, that works pretty much like live servers (I'll add my own fun elements, thanks ). And some basic info on how to get it off the ground for somebody who has never worked with SQL.

(Note: I'm well seasoned with Lua, so I don't mind having to use it thoroughly. But I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to C, C++, MySQL, etc.)

Very few 3.0.3 repcks and most of which require skilled Devs to fix the bugs wait a little longer until a stable more appropriate repack is released.

Hey, the difference between all the emu's is some are coded in C#, C++, C, Vb.Net, delphi etc. Mangos has a different structure than Ascent. Ascent and Mangos are both based from the emulator WoWD though. When people say 'Ascent' they mainly mean Aspire/Arcemu and blahahah Arcemu and Aspire are pretty much the same as ascent just a few different features. To get 3.0.X you will need to download the svn. Try using TortiseSVN, Although there any many other SVN programs you may use also. Then once you have obtained the svn from the site place the svn into TortiseSVN then download. 3.0.X Patches are found in the 'Branch' Folder. They are not highly recommended to use atm because of the stability. Try searching in the "Emulator Guides" Section there are a lot of guides in there

EDIT: Mangos is quite good to use ATM, Pretty good Stability, Not too many bugs, working AV (Almost) the hardest instance to complete, supports 3.0.X. But its completely up to you.

Also, when it comes to C++ and if you wish to learn it, just browse for guides some good ones are: 3dBuzz ones, Thinking C++ (Quite good explains GUI's and alot more in the start. Then once you got alright in C++ try looking in the .h files in your core.
