If you are running vista, it could be your windows defender, and/or an update from Microsoft that's making the error. If it ain't windows defender, you might need to Format your PC, i suggest you go back to Win-XP until Vista is fixed and works.
Another solution would be to install service pack 1-beta for Windows Vista, i've tried it myself and it fixed a hell loads of problems, i don't have a link for it at this time, try to google it i'm sure you'll find it.
Well it would be more useful if you check the Event log and post here the error you get...
1) have you tried removing the mysql folder after installing?
2) have you tried clicking on the config wizard to see if you can re-config?
If you need me you have my skype, if you don't have my skype then you don't need me.
I think u should try and get the 5.045 version of mysql, guess u want to install the 5.1 ??? I had this too on my Vista Ultimate, tried the 5.045 and works like a charm.
yes using vister, it used to work, also did what 2d said FIRST thing i did. no worky, ill have to format... my new repack will loose its data but thats what ill have to do
Reformating seems rather drastic and you can always backup your database in the MySQL data folder onto disk or something so you don't loose it if you need to format. Going to take a peek see if I can find anything for you will get back to you asap.
I am assuming that you are running Windows Vista Tom.
Check out this post on the mysql server site.
