.:| Private Server |:. Facts you need to know!

Hello, Hello. In this post, I am talking to all of the newbies out there.

I know how confusing it can be if you are a newbie to the private server area of MMOwned, or at all. So I will try and use this post to make it way easier for you to understand.

First of all, most of the words and vocabulary of the Emu world can be very confusing when they are really simple when put into easy words. Here is the basic words and definitions that you will need to know when playing on, or making private servers.

    First of all:
    MySQL:

This is a server that you just easily set up online. All you have to worry about is that this holds your game so that it can be played online.

    Database:

This is just a table that shows all the aspects inside the game, You can use a program that you can use to view your Game through your MySQL server. You can add new items and really any custom thing that you want when you compile.

    Definition #2 for Database:

This is a program file that members of MMOwned Post so that you can compile it into YOUR database, and it will add all of their game onto your server, so you don't really have to do any work if you use someone else's Database.

Now, one of the most unknown things that most regular server jockies usually dont even know. That is the "CORE".

    The Core:

This is the file that holds your ENTIRE server. If you used any repack guides such as Mafiaboy's Repack. The core is basically the Ascent.exe, config.exe, and all the .dll files inside the "repack" file. There know you know the basics of what a core is.

    Compile:

Ok compiling is very easy to understand. This is where you use your Navicat or SQLyog. And add things to your server. All you would do is upload the file into the Database, and there you have it! you just compiled something! yay?!?

    Rev:

A rev is a revision of what we call "Ascent" or "Antrix" or "Mangos". This is what people use to update their servers to new patches and stuff that Blizz does. It basically keeps the servers better and more fun to play on.

    Ascent:

This is a type of Emulator that has more details in the game that Antrix or Mangos doesnt.

    Antrix:

This is a really easy to use Emu. Its kinda a medium-type of server, easy to set up and moderate in-game.

    Mangos:

This is definately the simplest and most easy Emu to use and set up. If you are making your server for the very first time I suggest using Mangos, even though its very glitchy it is a good start and you will learn alot if you use this for your first time out.

    Dev Team:

On large servers, and sometimes small servers there is a dev team. This team is basically there to help the owner of the server get the job done. Being a Dev is a very hard job with little rewards, but they really keep the server up.

    Navicat:

This is a Database editor. Its a file that you download from the internet. You set it up with the same info that you have on your MySQL server.

    SQLyog :

Same as Navicat but different layout.

    HeidiSQL:

    Same. lol

    WoW-V:

The easiest and most simple website that has the best templates for creating custom content.

    Link: WoW-V

I hope this is found usefull and teaches atleast one person, because that will mean that my time here will have been worth it.

Your definitions of "Database" are almost completely wrong :l

The CORE is what is inside your ASCENT folder. The Database, is all of your SQL files that store key information about your server. These SQL files are localized on a MYSQL "DATABASE"

Yep, sorry Muff, a lot of errors.

Adding entries via sqlyog or navicat, is NOT compiling. Compiling your server is done, usually, with VC++ and is the process of building ascent and its prerequisite programs.

Adding entries to your DATABASE is done with navicat/sqlyog, and has NOTHING to do with compiling.

You say you want to clear things up and make things less confusing, where infact all you are doing is spreading the wrong information.

Muff makin the MMOwned server ?
    Antrix equal to Ascent
    Mangos isn't always so easy
Navicat, SQLyog and HeidiSQL isnt just a Database editor, like blizzard the use Navicat for the WoW DB, we can also create a db and much more with it.
And a tips, Ascent Database editor works better then WoW-Vendetta
