they ask for it because most private servers got real servers no dyndns or hamachi and thy cost money each month and money to upgrade thats why they ask

Lots of servers buy hosts.
Host = $$ per month.

Some people host off their own computer. They need to pay for best internet, upgrades to computer, ect.
Internet + Computer = $$per month and over time

Some people like money.
Greed = $$$ = Items

A host is alot more than $1 and you have to pay monthly. Even then, would you pay moneny every week so other people can play a game lol?

People, give $$, to they Owner of the Serve for the following reasons, some has been said

To get better Internet Connect / Fast / better Computer Status Etc
To pay for the host if they ain't hosting of there Computer
And for those people who just wont to be better than others with there 1377 Gear

Well if your hosting your server from your house. I doubt you will get the player base to donate 1 dollor for anything " No Offense "

BUT!! If you plan to host the proper way and use a Data Center " Something that stays online for more than 10 min " And you spend 300+ dollors on a server every month then you will cry when you only get 20 bucks a month to make up for what you spent / spend. 1 dollor will not keep your server online unless your made of money. Donations in a way crucial for some people. Even though they dont have to donate it helps in a HUGE way.
