Here is some custom lore I created for our project. If you are just interested in the project itself, please scroll down farther. I posted some of the lore to give you guys a feel of how the world will be after we have reworked it, and how lore will play an integral part in our project. 78 years have passed since the days of the Wrath of the Lich King. The Horde and the Alliance have shattered. Azeroth has fallen into war and chaos. Destruction has come across the land, and it has left Azeroth barren. The world is hardly recognizable to those who once saw the the old Azeroth. Darkness has descended throughout the land…
Chapter One: The Rise of King Varian Wyrnn (9 years after WotLK)
The great city of Stormwind once stood as the center of all affairs to with religion and politics. The Cathedral of the Light stood proud as the center for all religious ordeals in Azeroth, and Stormwind Keep could be seen from miles away. The keep represented the power of the great kingdom of Stormwind, whose influence spread as far north as Northrend, and even into other worlds, but all would soon change. The Stormwind Harbor acted as the center of Alliance trade to and from Northrend, and its bank acted as a center of commerce throughout the world. The Mage Quarter made Stormwind a central figure in all things arcane, and established the city as one of the most magical in Azeroth. Stormwind itself had become one of the grandest city in all of Azeroth, but it was this grandeur that would ultimately lead to its destruction.
Conflicts had begun to rise within the kingdom itself as Varian Wyrnn attempted to centralize more authority in the crown itself. He had ended the republic in Redridge by declaring himself its supreme ruler. The people there did not accept this declaration with joy, but their small town could not have resisted the massive armies of Stormwind. Elwynn Forest had always been seen as directly under the control of Stormwind, but for the first time they recognized Varian as their sole ruler. This recognition didn’t come without prompting. The King had ordered almost three hundred soldiers to march into Goldshire, and remain there until he was declared their king. Just southwest of Elwynn was the farming region of Westfall. The people of Westfall had been battling the Defias in Moonbrook for years, and they were beginning to slip. Defias bandits could be seen arming cannons just outside of Sentinel Hill, and the bombardment of the small city had left things in ruins. Varian offered his aid to the sentinels in exchange for their becoming a member of the Kingdom of Stormwind. The people of Sentinel Hill agreed to his terms as they had no other options. In just ten years, Varian had brought most of the major regions around Stormwind under his control, making his kingdom the most powerful on Azeroth.
Varian’s expansion of the Kingdom of Stormwind had brought an influx of new people into Stormwind. Many of the people who had been forced out of their homes by Varian’s armies moved into the great city to try to start over. Conditions within the city began to deteriorate as the poor and homeless became even poorer, but not everyone was becoming poorer. The aristocrats of Stormwind were growing wealthier every day. New markets had been opened up as Varian expanded, and provided new places for the wealthy to invest their money. As the separation between the poor and the rich grew, so did the tension between the classes. Just nine years after the invasion of Northrend, the Bank of Stormwind was burnt to grown in a riot that left Stormwind in a state of anarchy.
The king ordered his army to march into the city and force the rioters to flee. This did not go as everyone had expected. The rioters armed themselves with whatever they could find within the city and started a fierce battle with Varian’s mighty army. In the end, the untrained peasants did not stand a chance against the most powerful army in Azeroth. The rioters were quickly defeated, and Stormwind was stained with the blood of its own people. The riot itself began a series of events that would eventually lead to the assassination of Varian Wyrnn, and the civil war that would rage for twenty years.
Chapter Two: The Death of Thrall (12 years after WotLK)
As King Varian grew more powerful in Stormwind, Thrall grew weaker in Orgrimmar. Tensions between the Orcs had risen to a level never before seen. It became even clearer that not all orcs agreed with Thrall and his views about growing more peaceful as a race. Garosh himself began to speak out against Thrall’s ways, and began to claim even more power. It seemed that the days of orcish unity had been short-lived.
Thrall was returning from a visit to Razor Hill where they were discussing the tensions in Stormwind and how they could aid the Horde. As he passed through the canyons he found a small force led by Garosh Hellscream. Garosh challenged Thrall saying, “I wish to complete the duel we never finished.” Thrall accepted Garosh’s challenge as he was an honorable leader. The duel lasted for hours and neither of its participants seemed to have an upper hand. As night began to fall, Garosh moved to end the duel quickly. Thrall was weary from a long journey and Garosh moved far too fast for him at this point. All of Durotar was shocked to see the axe of Garosh land in Thrall’s chest. The deed was done. Thrall himself fell to the ground and looked up at his opponent. He begged Garosh to show him honor by leaving him there, but Garosh did not oblige. He tied Thrall to a post and marched into Orgrimmar brandishing the War Chief’s body. Garosh declared himself the new War Chief of the Horde, but his actions had made the many orcish clans grow even more separated.
Just a year after the death of Thrall, the clans of the Horde rose up against Garosh sundering the once mighty Horde. Drek’Thar led an army made up of members from the Frostwolf Clan, the Warsong clan, and the Shattered Hand clan. Garosh rode out from Orgrimmar and met this great army just outside of Razor Hill. Early in the battle, it seemed as if Drek’Thar was going to successfully defeat Garosh, but then Zando’zan noticed movement along a ridge just north of the battle. There stood a massive Forsaken army ready to support Garosh. Garosh’s forces retreated into the canyon where his enemies’ numbers were useless. There he made a stand while the massive cannons of the Forsaken army destroyed Drek’Thar’s forces. Drek’Thar ordered his armies to retreat. They fled to Stranglethorn Vale where he negotiated a peace with Garosh which left the traitors exiled to Stranglethorn. The civil war had left Durotar in turmoil, and had placed a violent leader in control of the Horde.
Chapter 3: The Great War (17 years after WotLK)
As Varian continued to gain power in Stormwind, Garosh began to plan his assault on the Alliance territories on Kalimdor. The port town of Theramore Isle was the clear first choice for Garosh’s invasion, but there was a problem. Jaina Proudmoore had foreseen the invasion of Theramore at the death of Thrall. She sent word to Varian Wyrnn of Stormwind in hopes of gaining his support. Varian saw it as an excellent opportunity to gain more territory in Kalimdor so he sent five thousand of his best men to Theramore Isle. His troops were stationed there for almost two years before Garosh began the invasion.
Garosh had planned his invasion of Theramore for years and it seemed like the time was right for him to take action. He led his main forces south into Dustwallow Marsh while he sent a second force to invade Theramore by sea. Garosh began the siege of Theramore as his catapults launched boulders into the citadel. The battle had begun.
Jaina and Varian decided their best option was to attempt to wait out the siege until more soldiers of the Alliance arrived as Garosh’s forces far outnumbered their own, but when the Horde ships were seen approaching the coast they knew they had no choice but to sally forth and fight Garosh.
The human forces had no opportunity to group together as that would have meant certain death with boulders still soaring over the walls. Jaina led her forces out of the safety of the city’s walls and into the sights of the massive orc army. Varian followed suit leaving a small army within the city to delay the orcish force that was coming by sea. As Jaina and Varian fought alongside their men, Garosh was nowhere to be found. Just as the humans seemed to have won the battle, Garosh appeared leading a force of mighty ogres into battle. The ogres killed hundreds of humans and left nothing in their wake. Jaina and Varian were forced to flee back into the citadel where they boarded their ships and abandoned the city. Garosh had been victorious, but war had begun…

If you are interested in joining contact me at [email protected], and then apply on our forums located HERE. Also. I’m not going anywhere. So you can expect this project to stick around for awhile. I’m going to be working on it even if no one joins so you can eventually expect a release, but if no one joins… well then it will take awhile, a very long while, before we get a release.
