Emulating Servers?

Hey, I've only been here for <1 month and was wondering if someone could shed some light on emulator servers. What they are, how they work, . . .

Hey Arch, first off; welcome to MMOWNED. I hope you find the community here helpful for all your WoW and Emu needs.


First, emulation. When a game is released, it is possible to emulate the game. That is, to imitate the game in it's entirety.
Players are able to emulate the game by using various programs to break it down and make it personal. Emulation simply means the game has a few modifications, that allow players to play with it as they wish.

Servers are what allow players to connect to their friends on these servers.
The servers are almost totally customizable, totally Dependant on how much you want to learn. You can create items, armor, spells etc.

Why play on an Emu server?
To experience the game at a whole new level. Avoid the endless grinds and long hours in raids.

To join is fairly simple.

First, you need to find a server you would like to try out. There are several styles of Emu servers available to players.

Blizzlike
This server emulates Blizzard exactly. Slow to level, gain gold, gain rep etc etc. There are designed for player who want the true WoW experience, but without the true WoW cost.

HighRate
These servers offer players faster leveling, higher drops of gold and or items. The rates are increased, but not crazy. This is for players who want to see all the material in the game, but not need to spend countless hours grinding and LFG.

FunServer
Possibly one of the more popular routes players take, these servers offer unique experiences.
The rates are crazy high, usually allowing player to reach level 70 after killing 1 mob. Armor is usually readily available to players in custom shopping malls for all their Tier armor as well.

Hybrid
My personal fav, and what I base my server off of.
Hybrid servers are a mix of all of the above. There is a lot of custom material; new armor, weapons; custom instances, custom quests for awesome items. Modified items so there are no class requirements for armor, no level requirements for certain mounts.

Donations
Almost all servers have a Donation option. Depending on the server style, various 'rewards' can be obtained for your support of the server.

Blizzlike, high and some funservers usually offer levels, gold, items or armor to their players in return for donations.

Hybrid servers and a few FunServers also go beyond.
Donations can get players ultimate levels, (over 70) custom armor/weapons/items that are unique to the server.
Spells can be purchased (like the ones GM's use)
Anything is usually available to players who donate on these realms.

Prices vary from server to server; some will try and sell a 2k dps weapon for over $100 while others ask a mere $5-$10.
