How do WoW 'Hack' or 'Bot' programs look on your CV?

I'm going to be applying for internships in the next few months and I was thinking of adding a few WoW projects I've been working on over the years to my CV, however recently I've been having second thoughts. These are probably very good for showing programming ability, but how would a potential employer view this sort of program overall? You do have to potentially break the law/a legal contract to build these programs so surely an employer seeing you've produced this type of program wouldn't work in your favour?

    Don't call it hacking.

Call it "external alteration of secure application memory to the benefit of the user"

I don't know where you're from, but where I'm from, employers don't really care about this sort of stuff, you say, for example that you have written several aimbots, noclip and fly hacks and whatever for whatever games, and the personnel guy will probably consider it an added benefit.

    Very Nice!

Just focus more on the actual coding and less on the terms you were breaking. I'm not sure what projects you were working on but make sure don't mention anything about monetary gain or a loss on Blizzards side through your hacking. If you are super paranoid you could mention that the programs you work on were used exclusively on private clients for the sole purpose of educating yourself.

This is an interesting topic. When describing your activities, focus on how you managed to "achieve software interoperability", maybe adding "in the face of non-existance of vendor supplied mechanisms" to achieve such interoperability.
I actually spoke about this topic in some interviews recently. Be prepared for people not having a clue about what you're talking about. But it can also be a very "out of the box" and "innovative" thing (to follow the buzzwords corporations are so fond of) so it can make you stand out... if properly sold.

I just say that I have extensive experience in reverse engineering and computational geometry. Although when I say that, my work with WoW is only a small part of what I am referring to.

I'd do what namreeb says. "Reverse engineering" experience is pretty neutral. If they ask you about it during an interview, you'll have a better feel for your audience, and can decide how detailed you want to get. Watch out for dedicated WoW players who might resent your hacking!

The question was about creating these tools not using them.

That's an asinine response to a reasonable question. Go back under your bridge please.

@OP: It depends how you present it. I can however say (from first hand experience) that if you present it correctly then it definitely can work in your favour. Though it would of course likely depend on the type of job you're applying for also.

Note that this is a wordy and psuedo-intellectual way to say "do what namreeb said".

Bitch please. "Do what namreeb said" is implied in ALL my posts.
