    Reverse Engineerers?

Alright, so I am reading the "IDA unofficial guide" book, I am also reading parts of "Secrets of Reverse Engineering", these are a couple of the books I am reading, I am learning about stack, and what not, but where can I learn about putting it all to use, I mean I am learning the pieces, and hopefully one day I can make something slightly respectable, but at this time respect isn't my concern, knowledge is. I know C++ and I can put it to use, I am have checked the "Read these books" section, anyone got any information and/or BOOKS that I should look over?

If you want to learn reverse engineering, i'd say the best thing you can do is reverse software that you wrote yourself in your preferred language.

For example, a console program where you can enter a password. If the password is correct it displays a success message, otherwise a failed message. Practice by getting past the password check in some way.

Perhaps a program that generates random values? Practice by trying to write a separate program to read those values.

Keep writing and reversing more complicated software, until you feel comfortable trying your skills on other people's software.

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.

Those books teach you the tools and techniques you can use to reverse engineer stuff. Once you know how to use the tools available to you and the basics of a medium level programming language(C++). The rest comes down to knowledge about assembler and practice. Assembler is easy if you know the basics of memory anyway, also with stuff like the hex-rays decompiler, its becoming less important.

And as for reversing you own code. I never got into that, i preferred just doing basic crackmes. (Crackmes.de - Welcome to the longest running and most complete Crackmes web page on the internet.) also check out TiGA's IDA stuff Tuts 4 You: Downloads / IDA Pro Disassembler & Debugger / TiGa 01 - Visual Debugging with IDA (first tutorial).

I've also read the 2 books you mentioned, but honestly I got about 150 pages finished in each. Crackmes.de - Welcome to the longest running and most complete Crackmes web page on the internet. is a great resource, then I just started looking @ the windows binary (i do mac reversing) + looking at the functions people have already found to make sense of what is going on
