Exploit: buy cheese and aegis from shop in game

A friend told me about this, and i was surprised to see that it works.

Go to your Dota 2 folder (in steamapps/common/etc). In there you will have another folder also called Dota, and inside will be a folder Itembuilds.

Find text file for required hero, you will see a list of items. Add an additional line containing Cheese (or aegis).

Voila. In game you can buy it from the shop in any amounts as you wish, works in matchmaking.

Here is how i did it (it worked as of 3 days ago)

1) go to your dota folder (as i described):
STEAM FOLDER / steamapps / common / Dota 2 / dota / itembuilds

2) this folder contains a lot of text files like "default_pudge" etc. These text files contain the default item builds that show in your shop window as suggestions

3) open the required hero text file. Inside you will see a lot of lines that all look same. I cannot quote exactly how it looks, as i do not have dota 2 on this pc, but they will all be the same, in a way that they will each provide a name for a single item. Easy to understand.

4) Copy one of these lines, and replace the item name with Cheese or aegis. Item name for cheese is "cheese", i dont remember exact name for aegis. Try "aegis", "aegis_of_the_immortal", etc.

5) Save the file and start game. When you play the hero for which you edited the text file, in your items window you will have the "cheese" and "aegis" as suggestions.
If i remember correctly, cheese costed 2k to buy (not sure), and aegis was way cheaper than that (possibly free, dont remember).

and I tried on multiple heroes.
does it have to be on a specific line? or lines? I tried the starting item build.

You mean its not working? I personally have no access to steam atm for 1-2 more days, however my friend reported this as still working ~3 days ago or so.
Your best bet is to just edit an existing item to cheese or aegis, if you are not sure about what the different code means.

Like, find an item name you recognise, and change it to cheese or aegis, then save.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you do it for a specific hero. if you change items for pudge, then ONLY pudge will have the cheese/aegis on his list, nobody else. So change for hero you need, or all heroes if you want.

Hmm dunno if they fixed it then. As you can see it was working for DFK 6 days ago, and it was working for my friend ~3 days ago, so unless they hotfixed it since then...
I will be able to check tomorrow, will post the results.

I was able to buy cheese once yesterday, but after that it refused to work.

Ill look into it, but for now i guess its fixed with that brewmaster patch.
