I got the whole editing weapons thing down pat,but someone guide me to armor, do I still open patch.mpq and just extract and change names or what?

Editing Armor is a lot more complicated then Weapon/Shield/Model/Race, I'd write a guide but I'm not too great with it.

when u want to edir armor u only need to use the m2 files for the head and the shoulders since all the other parts are the same model

u open patch.mpq and go there to texturecomponents to edit the armor (and objectcomponents for the head and shoulders)

now in the patch.mpq u got the texture for dungeon sets tier1 tier2 and tier3
at the texture.mpq u got the other armors like blue and green ones and zg set also since its same textures for them.
