Hills and mountains make up a majority of your FOV in Warcraft. A badly painted / shaped mountain can make your entire area look messy and amateur. So let's get started on perfecting your mountains!
Please note I'm not going to go over any Noggit tutorial stuff, there's enough information about Noggits functions all over the forum.
So, first of all, let's get a basic mountain shape, like so:
TIP: Linear brush type is a safe bet for shaping mountains.
Now that we've got our basic outline, we're going to start painting the mountain.
The first step here is to make the base texture the dirt or grass or whatever it is that you want to blend with your rock.
Now that our base texture is laid, we're going to start painting our rockface texture. These should be painted in small circular(ish) patches. Like so:
TIP: Keep your brush size low and your pressure settings below 50. You want to make sure your textures blend around the edges.
Afterwards, you should have something that looks like this:
So, now that we've got our rockface we can start shaping the detail into the mountain. The only tip I can offer here is to try your best to lift the terrain from the rock textured areas to outline the rocky patches of your mountain.
The more time you spend on this part, the better your mountains will look. Depending on how much effort you put in, your mountains should look similar or better than:
And that's it! Your WoW friendly mountains. Experiment with the gap sizes betwen rock textures to get the result you want and add texture details at your will
