1. Be Imba! Be Imba! - the online Character Auditor for World of Warcraft
This site scans your most recent Armory data, it highlights some areas you can improve (low quality items, low quality gems or misenchanted items) and makes recommendations. At the end of its analysis it gives you a "PvE gear score" based on your gear, gems and enchants - it then suggests instances where you might get upgrades / be able to perform in.
2. Warcrafter Warcrafter
On the face of it, Warcrafter looks pretty simple until you right click on an item and switch into "edit mode" . Basically it lets you replace items, change gems, change enchants or even respec your talents - pressing "Build Stats" will apply those changes and show you exactly what it would do to your stats if you did those same changes in-game. Hidden in the right-hand panel below the "Build Stats" button is a "Buffs" option, click this and you can apply the usual raid buffs to see how your stats would be in a raid buffed scenario.
- You can bookmark your profile, its basically http://kilrogg-eu.warcrafter.net/(Name)
- If your warcrafter profile is outdated press the "Resync" link on the right to update it
- If you register/sign up you can Save your customised character info
One thing to note, some of the new gems / enchants from patch 2.4 may not be in their database so you might have a missing gem or enchant.
3. RatingBuster (in-game addon) http://files.wowace.com/RatingBuster/RatingBuster.zip
This addon enchances your mouse-over-item tooltip, translating stats on the item like Spirit into its effect on your MP5. The summary at the bottom of the tooltip compares the item to the one you have currently equiped. If the summary stats are mostly RED the item is probably a downgrade, if the summary stats are mostly GREEN the item is probably an upgrade.
4. WowWebStats Wow Web Stats
Lastly, you may be familiar with the stats-posts I have done recently but you can also use WWS as a research tool. Last night before we went to ZA I wanted to see how hard the bosses will hit on a decent geared tank and how intense the fight is for healing etc.
Alot of people flag their stats reports for the public to see, you can search for a particular boss (like Nalorakk) and see public reports for Nalorakk kills. Unfortunately WWS doesnt help you sort through these, its normally 300+ pages of results. I found that modding the URL manually saves alot of time. For example Wow Web Stats is page 1 of hundreds of results, but by changing the "pi" value in the URL to something like 300 you jump to page 300 and save alot of mouse clicks Wow Web Stats.
Once you are here look for reports where the raid DPS is around ours and the Guild column isn't "anonymous" and open the report. The character names shown on the report can be looked up on the Armory so see their gear and you can get an idea about how they compare to your own gear etc.

Hopefully some of this will prove useful, if nothing else install the RatingBuster addon it's a fantastic way to compare two items without breaking out paper, pen & calculator.
