From my research
The only accounts got banned was the ones without the Team and without a starter Pokemon

The best way to avoid the bans. at level 5 stop botting and log in with a device to do Pokemon the tutorials.

This should work.
I still have 10 level 35 accounts still botting as we speaking.

Only the ones without the ones without the starter Pokemon and without a Team gotten banned.

That's my Theory.

Invalid. I have 10 accounts on bought lvl 30 that i have not logged since i bought. Tried to login once as we speak and still safe.

I bought two accounts two weeks ago, and I never use them to bot. one of the account was baned today, it seems they try to trace all possible bot accounts back now. It seems a new ban wave started now and they even trace back all the accounts botted before.

same goes to mine, all safe only one banned that without team

nah.. 175 accounts banned, with nick, w/o nick, with team, w/o team, Level 25,33,34,35... (botting) and some accounts less than lvl 30 that not bottinh from a weeks get banned too. Only survive 6 accounts that not bot and the last log was with Phone (w/o team), meaby thats the reason.

Does anyone know if any accounts have been banned that have ever had a purchase or an active balance of pokecoins? In other words, could it be possible to "protect" a previously botted account by spending $1 on 99 pokecoins and/or buying one lucky egg, etc.

The banwave has started again, any account that has ever used the API with false hash AKA EVERY BOT will be banned. However there is a cutoff account creation date so accounts newer than a certain date (might be today or yesterday) will be safe until the next banwave.

Don't fool yourself into thinking if you only botted "on Sundays while eating breakfast" you might be safe that is nonsense.
Or I only used XYZ bot at 3km/hour with all human actions so I am safe that is also complete rubbish.

If you botted a month ago once for 1 minute you will be banned. If you botted but bought pokecoins you will still be banned.

Enough with the foolish optimism from people who haven't been banned yet it is coming. They have thousands of accounts to ban it could take a week but I assure you if it has started they will get everyone just like last time.

The cycle goes on and on with Niantic but it will happen. FYI I have 5 accounts from level 36 - 25 and none have been banned yet but I am not stupid enough to think I am immune it will happen.

My advice make accounts now and start over if lucky we will build up accounts before they cut off the old API 0.35. Its possible accounts created today will survive the current banwave. I can get to level 24 in under 2 hours I suggest you all do the same going slower does not change anything when it comes to Perm bans.
