I purchased an item level boost on BFA retail wow from Cakeboost which I found advertised on ownedcore. I paid for the boost to ilvl 450 as I was so far behind from taking a long break. I was quoted 4 days which I was happy with and advised all their boosters use a VPN to my GEO location.
On Day 2 I checked my account login history just to make sure everything was going smoothly and that the guy was logging on.
To my surprise when I checked it showed the booster had been logging in but not using a VPN correctly.
I’m based in Australia and play on an Oceanic server. Yet when I checked it showed the booster had been logging in from New York USA which is 15,491 km (9625.6 miles) from my location. (Screenshot attached.
I then confronted cake boost who said the following
“he used vpn in this i am sure, coz he lives in another country. There may be a technical problem, I will ask him. In any case, your account is safe, since you are playing on a us server and he used us vpn “
Cakeboost advised they would check with the booster and get back to me.
After a few hours cake boost came back with the following.
“These are problems with vpn, it connects to Australia but it automatically changes to USA for some reason. vpn - YouTube He did not notice this, apologizes. Trying to fix it. Blizzard has a division into EU and US region.”
“problem will be fixed for his next game, sorry for the incident
just a technical problem”
My boost was finished on the 11/04/2020 and I was relatively happy with the gear I got as I was able to play again.
I woke up the morning of the 13/04/2020 and noticed I was banned for 18 months and checked my email which I have attached.
I contacted blizzard Australia support to try talk my way out of this but advised it would not get unbanned as they have evidence that my account was logged into from several different locations around the world, on multiple occasions.
I then messaged cakeboost on discord who advised he had to wait for the manager.
I have now lost many high level characters on the account not just the one.
I feel cake boost were incredibly sloppy but not making sure their boosters VPN is working before logging into customers’ accounts. I feel like this is poor service and code of practice. I warn other people looking to buy a boost to look elsewhere.
I found their service very sloppy and no the way a company should be conducting business. Its not hard to check that your VPN is working correctly before logging into a customers account, You putting them at risk.
